@candivore: haha, I wonder if I should have watched the stream. It didn't feel like a phone call for some reason and maybe I would've been better served seeing them!
I just want to say that I think it was really big of Abby to express what she liked about Disco Elysium despite all the very real harassment she got from fans of the game. I'm a fan of the game myself, I've played through it three times, but I was pretty upset with the comments that she got over the Quicklook. I don't know if I would have been able to react in the same way that she has.
I hope people take time to consider that the GB crew are people first, and no matter what their takes on a video game is, none of it warrants any harassment.
You know I never thought of it but Ben's right, Evrart absolutely is a boss fight. I felt like I was constantly on my heels when talking to him. Truly the Guardian Ape of Disco Elysium.
I think the devs of Disco Elysium wanted to depart from the power gaming that can happen in other CRPG's. I think giving you a few more points from the jump would help you not feel so deprived in the early going.
I will say that my subsequent playthroughs of Disco have been VERY different in terms of what comes up though. Some tweaking would help I think.
I'm happy that Ben lilkes Disco Elysium! If he's interested in checking more of that style of game out, I would recommend Torment: Tides of Numenara. It came out in 2016 and is a spiritual sequel to Planescape: Torment. The writing is a lot wordier, but it goes to some cool places. Planescape is also very good but it's also pretty dated, especially the combat system. The writing does hold up though!
