Hardcore is the sweet spot for people who played through Gears 1. Your AI squad seems so much better that Hardcore isn't even that hard. Its still a ton of fun.
I spent WAY too many hours of my early teenage years playing the "Gold Box" D&D games. I loved how many options you had for class, race & affiliation in the character creation while building a party. I would take hours to reroll the stats until they were as maxed as I could get. The addition of character movement to the turn based combat was pretty big at the time too. The combat in RPGs I'd played up to that point usually only dealt with attacking, casting spells, using items or defending. Being able to keep weaker characters out of the fray with ranged weapons and having to worry about your mages getting surrounded gave me more to think about and made the encounters much more fun.
I was feeling nostalgic so I reinstalled it and took a bunch of screenshots of the early part of the game which will be up when they get approved.
Its crazy to think of the stack of 3.5" discs that these game came on. The whole game is probably smaller than some animated avatars these days.
