@metalbaofu: Forget the snow area, I really didn’t warm up to this game until about chapter 4 when the story actually started going somewhere. This is one of those situations of “well just play for x hours and the game will get good”. Well it turns out you have to play for about 40 hours for that to happen, up until then it’s just a bunch of meaningless robberies and whatnot. I was so close to just quitting the game but now I’m super into the story. I see what they were going for in those early chapters and how it ties in later but I can’t say any of that was great at the time and also the gameplay still isn’t much fun even here at the end of chapter 6.

While it didn't take me that long to start enjoying it some, I do get what you mean. I tend to feel the same about all Rockstar stuff. I stick around for characters/story, and end up liking the games, but never really loving them. A big reason for that is the game play for me. The actual playing of a Rockstar game just never feels all that good to me.

If you're asking this question you should probably just return the game.

While I never really grew to love the game(I liked it about as much as I tend to like Rockstar games), I did like it a good bit, but I hated the opening area. I thought it got way better after getting out of the snow/tutorial area, so I definitely do not agree with the idea that someone won't like the game if they don't like the start.

Man...been a long time since I played those. I can't remember exactly how the portals worked, but I would probably suggest getting whatever the newest portal is. I would think, all figures should be guaranteed to work then.

Probably the main thing to look out for that I can think of is making sure the figures you buy work with whatever game/s you get. Newer figures won't work on older games. And, I feel like I remember liking the second game(Giants) the least, but I pretty much enjoyed playing them all.

@metalbaofu: I remember that this is one of those JRPGs where you gotta grind out some stats to get through later boss fights so yah that is kinda tiring.

Yeah, I've done stuff like that in other games without much issue, but it's been so long I can't remember specifics on this one. Maybe since I didn't love the game I just didn't have the will to grind any or something.

I'm somewhat curious about this. I have played it before, but I didn't finish it. This is the only game I can remember just stopping right at the end. I can't say for sure how close I was, but I'm confident I was really close to the end. It was some boss fight that I just could not beat and I got fed up and never finished it. Pretty sure it was a Gamefly rental for me at the time, too, so I just sent it back.

Besides that, I don't really remember enjoying it that much either, but part of me has always wanted to finish it.

You saying he likes movies made me think about stuff with more story than game play. Specifically, A Way Out. It has to be played coop, so you could play together, and I enjoyed the story a good bit. Been awhile since I played it(when it came out), so I don't really remember how demanding any of the action sequences are, though.

You didn't mention platform, but I thought about Detroit, too. It has the science fiction thing and even if he messes up during an action sequence the game just keeps going. Also, Until Dawn, but replace the science fiction part with horror/suspense.

While I do think I was getting a little burned out on their stuff, I was really looking forward to Wolf Among Us 2 and a possible Tales from the Borderlands 2 and more Batman.

Outside of somewhere like CD Projekt Red, it feels like smaller indie games are the only place to go if you want something that puts narrative first, which is what I find myself more and more drawn to in games nowadays.

Well there is Supermassive with Until Dawn and their Dark Pictures Anthology thing they announced, but yeah, there isn't a ton of games like this, especially from bigger companies. I kinda wonder if Don't Nod will do some more games like this(outside of Life is Strange).

I'm not super far into it, but at the moment it would definitely be on my list somewhere. As is Dragon Quest XI. I haven't finished DQ yet either. Decided to focus on Spider-Man since it's shorter and take a small DQ break. I feel like my love of RPG's will probably end up putting DQ at the top for me, but I bet Spider-Man is going to be pretty high on my list.

I got every riddler trophy in Arkham Knight if that tells you anything. Just want to be in the world, dont care if its supremely authored content

Hmmm, not to sure what to make of that honestly. Obviously if you dont mind the tediousness of collecting trophy's in AK, you wont mind swinging around the map to collect things in Spider-Man. That said, the Spider-Man collectibles are pretty mindless at least when compared to riddler puzzles (even the more trivial ones). But what I do like about the extra stuff in Spider-Man is that they stagger when they show up on your map and a lot of them can be done in one swoop swinging around the city without ever stopping.

If you do the extra stuff it bumps up the game to 30 hours easily.

Trophy guide says 25 hours for the platinum, so yeah, I'd say 25-30 hours for everything depending on personal speed and whatnot. Haven't played the game yet, though.
