I almost always put shanchett99 as my name for everything,nice name since its MY name with my last. The 99 is just there to hangout though. 
 
other times i'ld use some word made up with 2 gaelic words being smushed together :| always about 2 syllables.

Come on guys pull your head out your butts, some people are just dumb with names but that doesn't make them bad people at all. Reading things like "If I see someone with xX at the beginning and end of their name I rethink their intelligence", that's just really ignorant and juvenile. I've always gone with usernames I thought sounded cool. Handsome Dead has fared me well since I first found it cool playing Killer7 in 2005. I always think it's lame when people have shitty gamertags that have even less originality than mine because it really isn't that difficult to think of something and that's also the image you're giving out to the world. That being said, it is all technically anonymous and like Jeff said on the podcast, the internet is shit.

some gamertags are stupid like that. i really hate seeing that for a gamertag because those are stupid to have, it is an unoriginal name to have. i also laugh at people that have blunt trauma and pot emblem. i just laugh at all of the people that have that. sure it's funny to see that but when you see it all the time.

Sadly, you have to realize that the kinds of people these guys must associate themselves with probably think their gamer tags are hilarious, or they probably feel that any other gamer tag would make them not fit-in with their crowd. That is an even more depressing thought. And then you realize that the majority of gamer tags are weed jokes or xXHaloMASTERxX. Yet again, even more depressing.

MIne is highly unoriginal and uninspired....Scarface0803...my brother made it up and I've had this gamertag since the original Xbox and I'm too cheap to change it.

It's those asses with the lame video game gamertags that give video gamers a bad name. When I see people with lame "leet" gametags or ones with drug references, obscure racial epithets or other garbage, then you can see why I don't enjoy going online. Nothing like playing online with morons who think having a lame, unpronounceable gamertag  is cool. 
 
Usually on PSN, only the scammers have the leet user names. Most of the names are pretty normal from what I've seen, maybe you'll see a few. XBL is a different story. 65% of who I've seen in the first week back on Gold have those lame names. I'll bet most of these fartknockers are under 17.

My buddy made the mistake of making his gamertag whatwhatinthebut (the last 't' didn't fit) after the then popular Samwell video that was going around. 
 
Eventually he got a notice from Microsoft telling him to change the name to something a little more appropriate, so he proceeded to delete the name but accidentally confirmed it after deleting the last 't' 
 
Since he doesn't want to spend the money to get it changed, he is now stuck with the gt whatwhatinthebu for all eternity.

My gamertag aint bad I dont think. XvRokyracoonVx. Its shows how no one knows of Beatles songs that aren't Here Comes The Sun. Its ridiculous how many people on 360 and PSN I find that have no idea what it is. I think my PSN  name is better, Rokyracoon68, for it doesn't have the X's and V's and tells the year the song was released so the 68 makes sense. I only did the X's and V's cause my friends did it and my first 360 Gamertag, same as PSN, didn't work on Live anymore for some reason and I needed something extra added to the 'tag.
 
Some of my friends on Lives tags are so gay though. For example. XXIMATHUG13, XV ITz MAGIK z, and OhHiiiiiiiiiii just to name a few. I ended up deleting the first after he changed it and the other two.... I don't know why they are still on my friends list. They're all a bunch of homos.

I think if it was along the lines of Joint Ops or Blunt Trauma, then I wouldn't care so much. The reason is, those names are creative. They don't immediately have to reference drugs, but we know they do. I guess in comparison, Joint Ops sounds a lot funnier than something stupid like SiK WEED.  
 
As far as gamertags go, anything referencing a game is fine. I, however, simply used my own name Mike for my GT/PSN iimMike (immike is always taken..). I feel that it takes the 'online fake persona' out of the equation and makes it easier for others to communicate with me. Also, I don't want to label myself as a particular fan of a game as another game in the franchise may come along later on, and I may feel completely different about the whole series.

I have the gamertag Red Plankton. The xbox live on my main account has run out and I don't plan on renewing it, maybe next time I want to I will use Red Plankton instead.

The only reason they have such stupid names like that is because they know that no one from xbox live will meet them in real life. I'm not saying that as an insult or anything. I'm just saying that when they were coming up with their name they thought it would be cool and funny to them to put something stupid like that because they knew that anyone that sees their gamertag online wouldn't really give him any repercussions or even really put in any effort to care.

If you play MW2 for as long as 5mins you'll come across varients of such great gamertags like - xxXiTzLeGiTzQwiKSc0pEXxx and X 3LITE GAM3R.
