GOTY 2012

List items

  • Hands down the best game of the year. Great mix of turn based strategy and long term planning. So much fun while being entirely the most stressful experience (yes, way more than the Walking Dead) of the year. Exactly what you ask for in a game. Keep me engrossed in the game while giving me a challenge.

  • Ahhh - the ending! The worst ever! Well, not really. But damn close. What a travesty that my favorite game franchise of all time ended with a Game Show trope. That aside, this game is a lot of fun all the way through. One of the few games this year that I could sit and play single sessions longer than 2 or 3 hours. Look past the ending, this game is incredible.

  • Overrated? Yes. A little bit I think. The story is gripping and absolutely unforgettable - but that's not enough to make it "the best game EVAAAH!". You can't ignore the control issues and because of the way it plays, some parts of this game are boring as hell. The highest highs of the year, for sure. But I think its simply that we are so starved for story driven games that this one in particular stands out.

  • Not finished with this yet - but it deserves to be on this list. The story, as covered numerous times, is just awful. However, Tigers randomly attacking your enemies while you watch down the scope of a sniper rifle. Enough said.

  • One guy. Everything in this game. One guy. Such an excellent looking and sounding game. The combat is FUN as hell and the story is touching. If you missed this game, correct that. Now.

  • The first tuning fork I found and then the wigged out level that looks like an NES game that needs to have its dust blown out. Those things were the absolute BEST video game moments I had. All year. Maybe in a few years.

  • Never really got into Borderlands 1, so I don't have the problem others have had with this just being "more Borderlands". Played this entire game in coop. Every minute of it. I normally don't like coop, but this game made me a believer. If you are willing to put 50+ hours into a game, it has to be on your top 10 list.

  • I hate stealth games. A lot. If I want to think, I'll play a puzzle game. If I want to just knife dudes, I don't want to think. Stealth games suck. Except this one. This game is awesome.

  • Excellent concept brought to life. Simple enough on the surface that it looks like you could have created it yourself, but once you get in deep, there is no turning back.

  • An iOS game!? Yeah, so what, sue me. This game is actually probably number 11. The iOS game I would have put here is Letterpress. But its not in the database and I don't feel like adding it. :)

Why is this here? Go play it. If you can stop yourself from sinking HOURS into it, you are better than me. Game criteria for being on this list? Fun. This game is FUN.
