@DeShawn2ks:Maybe I have just been lucky in the past, having thought it through I did get called a noob when I finally tried Halo 3 online three years after release but otherwise have never had a problem. I was expecting it to get bad on COD but I got fed up with it before I really got that far into it. @TurboMan: If I have some spare cash I might still pick it up, as it was only 1 game out of 3 played, I was just a little shocked! I a a simple country lad from the uk! @yakov456: yeah I was more just ranting there, I do not think it was a SOCOM player thing, as with all games I am sure there are the annoying people out there.
I decided I would take a look at the SOCOM 4 beta yesterday as I am interested in the game but have never played a previous title in the series. I wanted to know how it was before I spend my hard earned cash. The game is fine and controls well, I can see this being something I will like. I was enjoying the game until I switched modes to try something other that bomb tech.
When I got in the game, which was already in progress I was met by quite frankly some of the most disturbing chatter I have ever heard. It seems I joined a game where two or three players were involved in an argument about how to play. I found it quite amusing to listen to at the start where there were terms being thrown around like "noob" and "go back to call of duty". This soon descended into racial slurrs, name calling, kicking from teams, and finally death threats. This is the first game I have played where I have heard the phrase "where do you live, cause me and my posse are going to slit your throat". At this point I thought things had gone two far between these guys, but then one of the turned on everyone in the game for not talking and formulating strategies. Now I cannot afford a mic for my PS3 and never really want to chat to strangers anyway, but I can do without the abuse so finished the game at this point.
Having never heard anything like this in 4 years of online play on my 360 I have decided it must be a SOCOM thing as am no longer getting the game at release as Ido not feel the need to play the multiplayer if this is the sort of experience I can expect from the objective modes. I will still get the game but if I am not going to get into the multiplayer there is no need to get it at release and instead I will wait for it to get cheap.
As long as they make the campaign longer and make more maps for the combat mission multiplayer mode then color me pleased. I liked the simple military objectives in the campaign like take and hold the mountain, it made me get more into the role of a soldier rather than part of an action film like COD has become. Combat Mission was a great multiplayer mode, like rush from BC2 but infantry only for the most part, and everything seemed to be real world based.
Doe any one know or has anybody heard if there will be an online demo released before this ships?
I ask as I seem to remember hearing there will be one but cannot find any reference to it. Also I want to try the online before I send my ill gotten gains.
I would go with the 360 version as you can carry over your choices and I found this a great feature that more sequels should do. And as it is cheaper I would say it is the best option all around, the DLC will be cheap in a sale again and if you can wait it is the best option to play it. I would be surprised if there was not a sale of the ME2 dlc around launch of ME3
