@ahifi: Well... let's put it this way: I'm not a wrestling fan. At all. Never watched a full show in my life. Jeff and especially Dan starting this project in addition to Gaiden the Ring has made me subscribe to New Japan World.
I'm gonna say the rhythm game part looks super simple. I noticed right away that the prompts have the same colors as the PS face buttons, so it's simply timing your presses so those prompts overlap with the transparent HUD parts near the middle of the screen.
Also, the meter in the lower right represents the opponent's health bar. If you empty it completely the opponent dies and you get the Fever finisher.
That said, I think you would've enjoyed the game more if you completely ignored that finisher and just played it like a regular fighting game, just using the bar for supers.
They kinda hit on why I became a predominantly PC gamer in the 90s with their "renting games" discussion. Since console games (I had a NES and a Mega Drive) were so expensive I turned to cheap alternatives like PC magazines with full games on them. Got a lot of point'n'click adventure games that way. Another alternative were some great compilations that got me all kinds of shit, from V-Rally to Dungeon Keeper to Fallout 1+2.
Tell me this isn't great value pre-Steam for 30 bucks:
I'm not saying this to shit on you, I'm just trying to showcase how insanely brutal and complex the battles in this game can be, even with the limited units and skills under your control.
