Wow its really reasonable. I'm from the UK and the sites I would normally hit for PC parts are all listing the entry level boards at around £70ish. So around $100. I'm currently watching on ebay in case any go cheap.

My only stipulation is that it has 4 ram channels. I've paid for the ram, I kind of want to use it hah.

Hi everyone,

So my PC is slowly dying and its become apparent what is at fault. It is looking like the motherboard and potentially power supply are the culprits. I purchased the ASROCK Extreme 6 LGA1155 board in 2012 and the power supply which is an OCZ (650 I think...) in 2008.

The issue I'm having is that the motherboard is clearly broken as it has two RAM slots (slots 1 and 3) that will not pick up any ram, I've tried changing the slots around and those channels fail to read perfectly fine DDR3 RAM. I also have start up problems where it will continually boot loop. By this I mean the fans will power on but not much else, then it will power down for a second, and repeat the process. I have to hit the BIOS reset button on the mobo to get it boot past the looping.

My dilemma is that the Z77 / LGA1155 boards are old hat now and cost as much as a new board would for a current gen Intel CPU.

I'm running an i7 3770k and I don't have any CPU based performance issues currently so I was hoping to not have to change the chipset as I would need DDR4 ram too as well as a new CPU to match.

What do you think, should I spend between £80-150 on a new (older generation) board, or fork out a few hundred for an entirely new build. I really cant afford the latter, but with money being a factor, spending inefficiently just seems like a bad move. Maybe someone has a suggestion for a good cheap LGA 1155 board I could look at?

Any advice is appreciated!

Cheers,

Someone from the US wouldn't happen to have a Nintendo Power to hand would they? I really need the dimensions... I've seen 8.5x11 but I don't know how accurate that was.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi, it's my friends birthday and I wanted to get him a present themed around his favourite game, Banjo Tooie. There isn't a lot of Banjo Tooie themed memorabilia available so I've decided to get a copy of Nintendo Power volume 139 and frame it. This is the issue for the launch of banjo tooie and has the artwork on the cover.

I wanted to possibly run this past people to get their opinions before I buy the magazine. I live in England so Nintendo Power didn't exist over here, however to me at least it's still the most official Nintendo magazine.

So what does everyone think, is it a good idea? If not has anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi everyone.

I, like most of you reading this have way too many games that I've bought and not played, or half finished. My aim is to fix this as best I can.

My aim is to play to completion (maybe even get the plat trophy if the game is good enough) the "top" games of each year starting from 2008 to present. My initial plan was to listen to the Giantbomb game of the year deliberations to create my short list for each period, however these contain spoilers after a certain point, and as it is my aim to play these games I've missed, this sort of defeats the point.

I guess I'm coming to the community on this one as I'm not sure where else to go. I had thought about using Wikipedia's list of games released in a year and cross-referencing the review scores to see if they are worth it, but I'm not so sure that is a particularly fun approach. If anyone knows of a good list, or maybe one on Giantbomb I am just totally overlooking please let me know.

The reason for me doing this is that I have lots of games I want to play, however I tend to just stare at the shelf hoping one will jump out at me as the correct choice and starting point. I figured if I approached this in a similar fashion to Drew with Metal Gear, play stuff in order along side other titles released the same year for context as to where the industry was at, it would be a more enjoyable and interesting experience.

If no one has any pre-made lists they think cover the important titles of the year, I'll start taking suggestions if anyone feels like helping out! Also, PC / PS3 / DS only, I currently don't own any Microsoft consoles (I'll make an effort to go back and play the Gears and Halo series at a later date).

I feel as though the last generation of consoles was a very good one, it had some low points (imo 2012) but there was a lot of good games over the generation.

Thanks!

I think I agree with Jeff that staying silent doesn't equate to complacency. But I think trying to shift the overall tone from "let's attack these people that don't agree with my views" to something along the lines of the Giantbomb number 1 rule: "don't be a dick", is probably the best way to start healing these wounds. It's not about trying to "win" as tbh as long as this continues games and "gamers" lose. It's more about trying to shift this awful atmosphere and focus back onto the positive side of our favorite pass time.

I just played an hour of Super Smash Bros on my 3DS tethered to my 4g phone with 3 people from around the world.

Games are going to be ok, infact, they're going to get better.

I'm not someone who comments alot but I love Giantbomb. In fact I love the industry. The worrying thing I find is, these people arent being created by the current state of games as a whole they already existed they just have an outlet, a podium of sorts. I think it takes more stuff like this article, from people with a voice that holds weight to say "stop it, for God's sake stop it." I don't know if everyone standing up and saying stop it would work, but I would be proud to have those people represent our dumb, awesome hobby. I'm not talking about getting riled up and fighting back. But letting this vocal minority know that it's not ok, and we don't want them representing us, or harassing good honest people in the name of games.

Well done Giantbomb, I think you did exactly the right thing.

I really hope that Microsoft threw a huge load of money at Square, I want them to keep existing.

I do however think it's real shitty of Square to sell the second game in a franchise. There will be people who played the first on PC and PS3/4 who want to play the next in the series. I can't remember the last time a sequel was made an exclusive with its previous installment being open to other platforms...
