Apologize if there's already a thread for this, but I looked for one and could find it.

It's been a totally surreal week on the site to be sure. Ryan's passing hit me harder than I would have thought something like this would. I never met the guy, but spent many hours with him through the years watching On The Spot, listening to the Bombcast, GB videos, etc. On top of that, he was pretty much exactly the same age as me (a couple months difference), so naturally you start thinking about your own mortality and how quickly and suddenly something like this can happen. I know the site will never be the same and I'll for sure miss him around here and on the podcast.

With all that said, it seems that the talk on California Extreme 2013 has been pretty light (and understandably so), but it is happening this weekend (7/13 and 7/14). I've never been before, but from all the talk on the site in years past about it, I've been excited to check it out for years and this was the year I got clearance from my wife to check it out (and "abandon" my two young daughters for an afternoon).

So who else is going? Any interest in a GB meet up to pour one out for Ryan? Maybe at Bennigan's over some Monte Cristo sandwiches?

I didn't have a PS3, but did have a Wii, a 360 and got pretty deep into PC this gen. Some of my favorites this gen (excluding WoW, which I probably played MORE than any other game this gen) have been (in no particular order):

Shooters:

Gears franchise

Bioshock Infinite

Edit: Mass Effect franchise (combo RPG/shooter, ME2 being the best by far)

Character action (I love this genre):

Bayonetta

dmc: Devil May Cry

Open World:

GTA IV (plus DLC)

Saints Row the Third

Music/rhythm:

Rock Band 3

DJ Hero 1 & 2

Sports:

NB2K12 (2K13 wasn't as good of a game, but has current rosters)

SSX

Platformers:

Super Meat Boy

Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2

Is it wrong that I want the book and nothing else, including the game?

I didn't have an N64, but 4 player WCW vs. NWO at my friend's house in college got pretty fucking fun.

I did have a PS1 though, and since I was in college most of the time, I did play a crap load of games.  Here are the ones that sunk the most of my time...

Final Fantasy VII
Sounds like pretty much everyone played this game.  Besides the fact the story didn't exactly make sense at the end and the graphics don't exactly hold up very well, it was pretty amazing at the time.
Final Fantasy VIII
I don't think I liked this game, but I still did all the side quests, got all my characters to level 99 and bulldozed the last boss for some reason.  You tend to have a lot of time on your hands in college and not very much money to buy new games.
Resident Evil 2
I must have played through this about 20 times trying to get the best rating at the end, even going through both discs one time without saving once, only to die in the last 30 minutes of the game.

Now we enter the sick competitive portion of the list with my college roommates.  I'm not sure how I graduated when I think of the hours of FIFA and NBA Live we ended up playing.
Twisted Metal 2
NBA Live 2000
FIFA 1999
NFL Game Day 97
Street Fighter Alpha 2

I'm just wondering if this is possible with the GB site yet, or if there's any chatter at all about whether it looks like it will be possible at some point.  Not a huge deal, just curious to see what anyone knows.

Halo series for sure.  I'm not a huge shooter guy, but i played my fair share in the late 90's (Half Life, CS, Quake III) and IMO, all of the Halo series isn't as good any of those games, let alone all the better shooters that have come out since then.
