The Tapes are super worth listening to (especially Miller's restaurant stuff)

Also the Tapes are a good compliment to the side ops and the travel time on the map, makes a nice zen like experience for playing such a great playing game.

@halexandra64: Yep a problem with the term not the thing in and of itself. Feeling guilty is different to me than something being a guilty pleasure.

I have stopped using Guilty Pleasure because it doesn't fell true. There isn't any guilt in things I enjoy but also those things are not perfect.

I don't see a point in feeling guilty about art that you enjoy, you enjoy it at least parts of it so own it.

The truth about best and favorite and their difference is that it does not exist.

Loved the piece gonna check out that HBO show now.

The loop that holds for me is the perfectly calibrated mission times of Monster Hunter. 50 minutes do this thing that is tense white knuckle and usually in a group too.

The exact moment where I realized I don't actually care that much about the larger stories in games (for the most part) is the same moment when I realized how deep the Monster Hunter hooks are inside me.

That loop of shopping, a bit of chatting beginning quest, gathering, locating, fighting, running, locating fighting it is very much what I look for in video games, sadly that series has been sent to a platform I don't want to own(for reasons that are not software related) so I have found the next closest thing in video games being the death loop in the Souls and most recently Bloodborne games. Which actually is why I didn't mind the BB load times because you need that exhale before you plunge back into the depths once again.

@metalface: That is the point I hit with the game earlier this week I was wandering the world wondering exactly what I was doing.

The other big one for me is Assassin's Creed and I realized why when my favorite game in that series is still the first one.

I want Assassin's Creed and Hitman to become a single franchise. With the movement and locations of Assassin's Creed and the crowds / people, objectives, tools and discrete levels of a Hitman game.

Bethseda RPG's have become that game for me. There is a lot to like inside them but...

The lack of finesse possible in their combat systems combined with the scope of them has turned me off of them, and the impressive outings from other companies in related genres (From Software's rise being the big one) has made it so I don't ever need to go down their roads for games like that.

Overwatch seems like a blast but with my laptop right now I am waiting for console versions, and Summertime is FIRE.

This comment and the following thread of comments do a good job in illuminating why even what was written at Kotaku may not be on the level.

I will always and forever when asked to point to one piece of writing at games go back to these.

http://www.deltaheadtranslation.com/index/

Formal Essays on Metal Gear Solid 2 & 4 and 2 pieces of work that I can say greatly improved my enjoyment and understanding of not only those games but things far greater than them (make sure to click on all the images for expanded points).
