@bisonhero: I can't tell you how tempted I was to make a joke something along those lines, haha. I had only played for two days with middling progress, it's not the end of the world. But I guess I'm worried if it happens again.

I guess I wanted to put a topic out there to get a feel on things, but an update or something that came out for Gungeon today erased my save file. This is a first for me as far as updates or patches doing something radically screwy with save files. I'm not sure if it's something I did or if anyone else has run into that problem.

Not to make it a total non-sequitur, but I'm still trying to figure out where they get the trailer music. Whatever is playing during Laura's is pretty cool. And the sick beat they have for Karin's reveal trailer is great too. Still don't know where it comes from or if it's even in the game. I haven't been able to dig up any information on it yet.

I beat Plague of Shadows a few minutes ago and I have to say I really, really enjoyed it. You could say I had a blast, hee hee hee! (Sorry)

I've always had a soft spot for antagonists, but even with that there is so much quality in this update. Plague Knight has so many great animations in addition to his explosions habit. I wish I could talk about all of them but I don't want to spoil it. I'll just say that Plague Knight can get his groove back at some point. And there are a few funny uses for it. Also Mona, who was just a basement mini-game lady before, has become a pretty nice character in the world of shovelry. I mean it's nothing groundbreaking or anything. The story is pretty standard with a Dead Space mark of quality, but it's executed pretty well.

The gameplay also came into its own after a few hours of play. I went through the trouble of collecting all the green Alchemy Coins (Mario taught me well) and I would strongly recommend you do so as well. The reward is pretty ridiculous and is one of my favorite brands of chaos. Once you feel out the distance of the explosive jump and using bomb spam to get a second or two of lift, you can really, really move. I briefly went back to play Shovel Knight and missed the ability to catapult through the air or just chuck bombs with abandon. His stable of moves are great too. I mean, Plague Knight can learn how to Shoryuken and use Screw Attack. C'mon. Can't hate that.

The hardest boss of the bunch was Propeller Knight. That guy and his rotor helmet totally wrecked me. It's really tricky dealing with an enemy that is always in your face when your main way of attack is distance. The many fuses and upgrades to your bombs definitely had a use and it's lots of fun to experiment. Funny enough, the only level I didn't die on was the final boss.

The takeaway is that I'm really excited about King Knight and Spectre Knight. I hope they can feel as rounded as Plague of Shadows. For me, Shovel Knight is a solid enough game in terms of level design and structure that playing through it as a new character with different mechanics or physics sounds just fine to me. I wish Yacht Club had the plans to go through the entire cast. Playing as The Enchantress or Propeller Knight I feel would have been great.

But yeah, if you have Shovel Knight and want a new way to play, I would say Plague of Shadows is worth checking out. Remember, bigger explosions mean better alchemists. Bombs away.

That said, can't wait to give it a go. Shovel Knight was my GOTY last year so I'm pretty hyped. I know they talked about doing King Knight before, but is Spectre Knight actually confirmed?

Awhile ago they had a vote from the backers of the kickstarter on three characters they'd make a side campaign for. The winners were Plague, King, and Spectre. Unless something changes from now and then those were the three that they had plans for. Unless I was mistaken or something.

Also I had not seen that page before. That's probably a good idea keeping your blast jump charged all the time. Although there as one part of Lich Yard with spikes on the ceiling that would definitely kill you if you had a jump charged. He's pleasantly different from Shovel Knight that's for sure. I'm really curious what they'll do for the Explodatorium boss since you're already playing as Plague Knight. I figure it's either some mirror match or you'll fight Shovel. I'm probably headed there next when I get a chance to play again.

Reading this thread makes me feel better about my experience with this mission. I'm glad I wasn't the only one getting chewed up, haha. Those tank gunners are better shots than Revolver Ocelot can ever hope to be. I don't know if it was my base ranking or whatever, but the artillery strikes were completely ineffective and wouldn't destroy any tanks I targeted. And yeah, I'm positive I was on target since I spotted them and everything.

But yeah, that took awhile.

I didn't see a topic for it, so I thought I'd start one to talk about the Plague of Shadows update that came out today. Incase you didn't know, now you can play the main game as Plague Knight (and partake a challenge mode, but I haven't tried that out yet) and go on explosive adventures as you try to make the ultimate potion.

I've only beat King and Specter so far, and the main thing is that Plague Knight is really squirrely compared to Shovel Knight. It's really different feel mainly in the locomotion. Plague can really move with his explosive propulsion. And he's got a somewhat of a double jump. I say somewhat because the second jump doesn't get you much height.

But the main tripping point I'm still trying to adjust to is the serious knockback that Plague has when enemies come in contact with him. I've been pushed down tons of pits so far, especially while trying to feel out his exploding jumps. Enemies have felt way more dangerous in that respect since they can just kick you around.

Probably my favorite part so far are chucking around his bombs (the Black Knight fight was great) and the little tweaks they've made to levels such as getting new powers and collecting green coins. Really excited to see how the Plague character turned out so far, and I'm really excited for the future with King Knight and Specter Knight, whenever that may come out.

Of course, I'm really dreading the Propellor Knight stage. So many pits... I'll probably end up in all of them.
