Yes, considering WoW took the same window of time (4-5 years) as the majority of MMOs; you are correct

@Shady1992: What exactly is a "normal" MMO development cycle?  What about Guild Wars 2, which was announced four years ago last month?  At any rate, even if that supposed $300 million spent on the project is anywhere close to accurate, the game would need less than two million people to pay $15 a month for one year to recoup those costs.  Considering this is BioWare, Star Wars, and not Galaxies, I think this MMO has a good chance of, at the very least, breaking even.  As for the idea that it needs to "compete" with WoW to be successful, well, that is just silly.  Will it hit 12 million?  I honestly doubt it.  Will it still be a wild financial success?  I suspect it will.
A normal MMO development cycle is 4-5 years, and TOR can't be a "wild financial success" if all the potential customers stay subbed to WoW

God you're still here? If people are not interested in a game they tend not to post negative comments about all day.

I am interested in the game, though.  I just have very low expectations for it now

Announcement is irrelevant, WoW took about 5 years to make.  TOR has so far taken 6

Yeah we've all seen Beta footage; a perfect leveling process doesn't get you anything more than box sales, and a steep subscriber dropoff once the free month runs out

No one is doubting TOR's 1-50 content, BioWare has done well for the most part with their single player games; and leveling in an MMO is basically single-player now anyway; I'm sure that part is 100% what it needs to be, and then some.  But that does not make people play an MMO for more than a month

Its pretty funny, there is a crazy amount of bollocks being pushed out from pro and con TOR camps.

EA need 500K subscribers for it to be considered a success.

The amount of people that valiantly defend it and the trashing its getting make me think people will at least know all about it and that 500K figure will not be a problem.

If the game only gets 500k subscribers it'll be the biggest failure in the gaming industry; surely you realize that

Just because the EA Marketing department says thats all they need to get a return on their investment, does NOT mean that BioWare or John Riccitello will be around much longer if it's at 500k

Resorting to calling me a troll is hardly a good "counter-argument"; but I understand you feel the need to win

I know I shouldn't even bother with you since you're so set in you're ways but with the amount of time and money they've put down, they will make it last
A few hundred years ago people like you were walking around going "The Earth is flat, the Earth is flat!"  If you choose to walk the path of the blind-man you will only be dissapointed if TOR is released
Oh wow...you are such a douchebag
Ad homenin remarks can often convey a point very well, but I don't see the constructive nature of you calling me a "douchebag".  Were this in response to something I said that was hostile, I would understand; but its not like I started saying "everyone that likes TOR is a faggot!" or something
