2023 Complete

List items

  • Another platform, another completion. Now to finish the mobile version.

  • I can't even remember how many years I've been trying to beat this game and I finally did it \o/

  • Had my steam deck arrived days earlier, i would have put this on my top 10 list ;-;

  • This was a fun throwback to where these games started and a stark reminder of how far they've come.

  • I hit credits so it deserves to be listed here.... or does it?! :o

  • Younger me would be so proud that I figured out how to play this game :)

  • Crispy Critters. February is the month of liking things the internet hates!

  • It might just be because I was playing the PS1 version this time but I don't remember this game being so hard

  • Any game that has "never gonna give you up" in it is alright in my books

  • An excellent remake in some regards, a complete fumble in others. Overall I think the good outweighs the bad but regardless, I don't see myself coming back to this as much as the original

  • Just when I thought I couldn't be more into this game the last stage takes you to SPAAACCCCEEEE!

  • Had no intention of playing this until the day before it came out but I'm glad I did. Just an absolute crazy amount of game. 150 hours (somehow exactly the same amount of time I put into Breath of the Wild) and I still only did 1 of the dungeons. and you know what, I'm satisfied to leave it there for now. Just randomly wandering into the ending of the game while exploring feels like a good place to leave it, at least until the DLC comes out.

  • Maybe the most gorgeous looking game I've ever played. Been playing this slowly for months now and I'm gonna miss not having it there for me to return to.

  • Started this Monday intending to beat it before FF16 on Thursday and hit credits exactly as I got the notification saying FF16 had unlocked :dabby

Fun game! A little archaic but found myself liking it more and more the deeper in I got. Just some good meat and potato video gamin' to binge after TikTotK and before FF16. Plus it's fucking gorgeous.

  • This game had me at saying 'SAVE ROOM' like it was a Resident Evil game.

  • Unapologetically dark and amusingly nihilistic. Think this may be my favourite Rockstar game. The writing (not necessarily the plot) is great, the shooting of dudes is great and James McCaffrey is just such a delight to listen to, as he spouts his depressive self hating rhetoric.

  • This game might have taken the Game of Thrones influence too far by turning to shit half way through.

  • I still just absolutely love this game and replaying it has reminded me just how excited I should be to see this story continued. Played through twice, will maybe probably do a 3rd playthrough before the sequel.

  • Perhaps a little more trouble than it's worth. For an XBLA downloadable game though, I guess it's fine. It's certainly fun to play and the arcade mode is great but returning to it in 2023 is a little bit of a slog. There are interesting story developments for Alan Wake and his fight against the darkness but I wonder how much of this will actually be followed up on.

  • Found this second playthrough to be a little underwhelming. I still love the games, it's undeniably stylish in it's presentation, the writing is great and the gameplay is still fun but I got less out of it than I did returning to Alan Wake. The story is kind of nothing in this. It's got great world building, writing and characters but the actual plot is a little thin. It feels very Season 1, laying the foundation ( GEDDIT) for things to come.

  • Was not expecting the robot game to present me with a moral choice that would leave me frozen but here we are

  • Hit credits three times and my ultimate consensus on this game is that it's okay, just barely making it over the threshold for being OK. I found the level grind to be somewhat enjoyable in a 'numbers get bigger' sort of way but the boring uninspired presentation of everything alongside the 'removal' of a large, singular open world is not enough to justify the 200+ hours I spent. I hope the game is supported for years to come because the game shares a lot in common with No Mans Sky in terms of scope and gamification, and while I never returned to see NMS' progress, I hope to be able to do the same with Todd Howard's Magnum Opus.

I suppose it's telling that the most positive thing I can say about Starfield right now is that it helped me appreciate how much more consistently fun other games like Armored Core and Lies of P are.

  • Sneaking in another playthrough a day before the sequel hits ^_^ Game is still awesome. Even better with mouse controls (albeit a little long)

  • Such a joyous game. I often underestimate Nintendo as a game developer but really they're in the highest echelon of game makers.

  • Still the best Diablo game

  • The initial adrenaline rush from playing multiplayer Quake for the first time was quite something. I get it now.

The campaign isn't quite on the level of Doom but given how insane the multiplayer is I think that can be forgiven. Though I must say my Quake appetite was satiated from just the base game. Maybe I'll go back to the other expansions later down the road.

  • I was initially very taken aback by how different this felt but after some adjustment, I really enjoyed the slower feel. I mean, that adrenaline rush from Quake 1 was a thrill but this game I actually want to play more of after being the first episode.

Also Call of Duty is basically Quake. It all makes sense to me now.

  • Interesting from a historical perspective but man, what a frustrating game to play. The platforming and lack of resources is just not fun. I guess this is from the era of quick saving but having to do that after literally everything is exhausting.

That being said, there is some cool stuff in here. That part with the guided missile, the scripted moments, all the stuff regarding the G-Man (all 2 minutes of it). Definitely a big step forward from Quake and Doom, games this was clearly inspired by.

Though, given that Quake 4 and Doom 3 seem to be cribbing directly from this game, maybe Half Life's affect on pc gaming was more negative than it was positive.

  • Who knew a survival game could have credits

  • Certainly a product of its time. Not completely without merit but certainly a slog to get through without a walkthrough

  • The real Metal Gear starts here. Much better than the original and potentially up there with the best of the series. It's remarkable how complex the morals of the story presented are, as well as the depth of the puzzles. It's still kind of random bullshit, but it's at least random bullshit with some pretty smart hints along the way. I didn't even have to look at a walkthrough for this.

Also, crazy how many of the series' long lasting tropes are started here. Especially in MGS, this game is basically that game in 2D. Such a deep game for something from 1990.

  • this game is so good

  • A fantastic remake that makes some smart changes to the original while keeping the experience intact. I was surprised just how much I remember about this game. Not so much to story, but more specific areas and encounters. I haven't played the original since it was new and this remake is definitely a reminder that it's one of the best single player games I've played.

Think it's time I finally get around to finishing the 2nd game, hopefully they remake that too
