I've given this topic some thought, and while it doesn't really affect me because I can normally see when complications with my rally point are going to arise, I've discovered other players who have problems with it and I have used their mistakes to win the game. I don't know if there was really an uproar when the rally point was just a normal attack move, but I've won games because of it so I am fairly happy with it.
I was playing last night and came at this guy with cloaked banshees and marines to kill the sentry's, but his natural not only had too many sentry's for me to send my banshees in, but that canon on top of the command center messed them up. So I nuked him.
