Thank you for everything, Dave, and best of luck for the future - I have a feeling that this will be one of the best decisions you ever make. You can always find another engineering job, but getting to experience every precious moment of your daughter's first months is something that will only happen once. Cherish every second.
You might be a bit jaded. Just take a break from the Bombcasts, or regularly visiting the website, for a while. We can all get a bit disillusioned with the things we enjoy most from time to time.
Urgggh there's not a chance it's going to be up before i go to bed... that makes me a sad panda. Oh well, at least I won't be hanging around for it tonight!
I hadn't heard of Polygon before now - I really like their philosophy on reviews scores; that they are ever-changing and dynamic. I believe that, with the manner is which a game can change over time - due to DLC, online connectivity issues such as those SimCity has brought to the fore, revelations of game-breaking bugs post-launch, patches etc. - in the modern day, plus the standard time-altered perception that a person can have of a given experience, flexibility is absolutely necessary, when called for. I don't think it's a blight on a reviewer whatsoever - it demonstrates awareness and continued relevance.
Jeff: This is just one guy's opinion about the evolution of video games critique, but I would recommend that you have a good, long think about score flexibility. Even more than you already have done!
How about just being able to "favorite" the video or not, and then be able to sort by # of favorites.
That way there isn't the downvote bullshit.
That sounds like a better idea.
Yeah, that'd be great actually. I mean I could already just make a list containing the game pages that feature my favourite quick looks, but having a feature specifically designed so you can bundle up your favourites bits of video content would be grand.
Way, way better idea. Certainly more hater-proof than a rating system.
@heatDrive88: Right, right... pretty light on Asian supermarkets around here, but if it's a sweet and spicy hot sauce, i think the most suitable replacement would be this Thai sauce i can reliably obtain called Maggi. I'll have a snoop around the bigger stores around here just in case they stock Sriracha (thank you for the picture) though. Hm, yes i guess the flavouring on Doritos might destabilise the flavour a bit... perhaps something simpler.
Okay, so what's the British equivalent to Fritos? Are they an American crisp? Also i have no idea what Sriracha is, either. Other than those two sticking points, i'm ready to go!
EDIT: Somehow i forgot Google existed. All good now! So Doritos and generic hot chili sauce as substitutes. Thanks for the recipe, Drew!
