I heard on the podcast that you all had not seen a card overheat due to the uncapped fps on the main menu. I found these pictures kind of hilarious and thought you all would get a kick out of them too: http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/817/20100729227.jpg It's a 8800GT. Great game. It's a really nice change of pace from the standard shooter. Flying around space is cool and the graphics are awesome. It desperately needed new content so I'm glad it's received an update.
I really want this on the PC... I don't know if I can wait 6-12months, but I will for sure wait and see if it runs smoothly on the console. I was not happy with the performance of GTA4 on consoles (or anything less than a supercomputer pc for that matter).
So we did a clean driver reinstall and the problems seem to be fixed. Decent performance now with tessellation on. This game looks amazing! I'm so glad they are still pushing the limits of graphics on pc games.
@CrimsonMachete: That's with Tessellation enabled? We're on the same cpu clocked @ 4ghz but with 6GB ram. If so that's crazy that you're getting 4x the performance of a 5850 and beating a 5970.
" I sure hope those new nvidia chips are out soon -- tessellation is dropping a 5970 into single digits when turned on in this game! "
Seems like your problem may be elsewhere as my 5870 Crossfire setup has no problem at all running DX11 options with all other settings maxed, 1920x1080. Beautiful looking game! "
Hmm it's my friends computer, but he's running 1920x1200 with everything on at ~40fps. Tessellation drops it down to about 12fps avg. Game is very playable w/o tessellation though and still looks beautiful. I'll have to get him to play with it more -- the benchmarks I'm seeing show a 5850 @ 1680x1050 with 4x AA DoF on and Tessellation on getting 12-13.8fps so I would expect a bit better on his rig.
