Re: Wherlein missing China:

In Melbourne, Martin Brundle was basically saying Pascal is insane for being able to walk around like he is and not even try to drive for points.

Whats the opinion on this? Brundle obviously has a history of racing with pain issues (his feet are basically bone powder and science) so is this old man yelling about lazy kids? It is kinda curious, since every other injury i've seen they've had to force the driver to not get back in the car. That said, back injuries are crazy and Pascal is basically still a child so I can see his doc saying 'race now and your career will end early'.

It sucks, because I was hoping Pascal would do some crazy shit in the back this year.

Hi folks. First post here in the forums, i usually just chat in the livestreams, so forgive me if i do something stupid.

So in today's Gears stream I brought up my recently modded PS4 controller, and some folks were interested, so here are the details. I, like a ton of folks on the internet, love the dualshock 4, but A. hate the battery life and B. break the damn triggers. Like seriously, i've broken these things 3 times on 2 separate controllers. I got a bag of replacement triggers, but what can i say, i've got big hands and im rough on these things.

Yes. I manhandle these things.
Yes. I manhandle these things.

Every time, its one of the little plastic pegs that snaps, which makes the trigger rock back and forth, which makes my Crucible K/D even shittier than normal. I've gotten pretty good at replacing them, but this time i wanted to do it for the LAST time, esp since im not so sure the controller can really handle being cracked open and closed so many times.

I found actual cast metal buttons on a british site called 'Zedlabz'. Dig down into their 'replacement parts' and you'll find all sorts of plastic and metal replacements. The metal kit was a bit expensive, but overall this stuff was about equal to whole new controller. I got the battery from Adafruit, which is where i buy all my raspberry pi and other electronics kit parts.

I followed https://www.ifixit.com/Device/DualShock_4 ifixit's guide to do a complete teardown (necessary for the thumbstick replacements, follow those instructions mostly to the end but you DO NOT HAVE TO desolder the thumbsticks. the plastic thumb nubs pop off with a little bit of pull) and THIS for the battery replacement https://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/2rtimv/diy_double_dualshock_4_battery_capacity_internal/ .

All in all it took me about 20-30 minutes. I WOULD NOT buy shitty chinese batteries. I got mine from adafruit and while they're expensive (relatively speaking, about 15 bucks plus shipping, i bought 2) they're guaranteed to not blow up in your face or not charge or nothin. Also make sure you follow the instructions from the reddit post and SWAP THE LEADS if you get the adafruit battery, or you will blow out your controller. Also please dont touch the leads on the battery when you do it, lipo batteries exploding is insanely scary shit. Go slow. Be safe.

Even Demoman is better than me in the Cruicble.
Even Demoman is better than me in the Cruicble.

So far, i've just run the Titanfall 2 tutorial gauntlet to test this thing. The metal sticks feel better than i thought. The triggers are REAL NICE. I don't think its going to help my KD, but i just wanted this thing to last.

I haven't pushed the battery to its limits yet, im trying to kill the charge it came with so i can charge to full and time it properly, but its double the miliamp hours so im hoping for double the time. The reddit thread claims 12-13 hours of constant use. Downside is the PS4 battery meter seems to just be time based? so its wrong with the bigger battery.

Anyway, just wanted to share. Thanks folks. Happy modding!

@bananasfoster: Yep. Barret's dialog rubbed me the wrong way as a little black kid. Him looking like Mr. T didn't bother me, it was the sounding like a dumb thug that made me feel weird. I'm not going to make a tumblr about it and cry all day long, but it does make me sad when you see them go for that low hanging fruit.

Step forward to Sazh Katzroy and you can see Square grew up. He was still A BLACK DUDE! but he spoke proper english and wasn't cringeworthy at all. I would gladly go to a con and cosplay him or something.

I have faith that Square can remake Barret without too much trouble.

@tonch: I wasn't trying to be derogatory. We know this is a very vocal minority, and as a dude married to a therapist who has worked with super paranoid folks who get very passionately involved in these things and CANT step back and look at voices of reason, I'm honestly wondering if some of the worst rhetoric (like giant bomb being the 'enemy') is stemming from other issues.

Again, I say this with the utmost respect to everyone.

After reading this, seeing people on twitter call Giant Bomb and Shacknews and other sites that have recently laid out their opinions 'the enemy' makes me wonder how prevalent mental illness is among the most hardcore of these folks.

I mean, you have to have some sort of disorder to see 'hey, lets play nice and not threaten to kill each other' as some sort of illuminati coverup, right? Its more sad than anything. There was a reddit post on that kotaku action subreddit where someone broke down why they unsubbed from GB after this weeks podcast, and talked about how it was a dark day because his heroes abandoned him. Its scary that someone is that reliant on Jeff and company as 'heroes' (and i dont mean that as a slight i love you guys) and also that enraptured in a cause to IGNORE the opinions of his 'heroes'. I saw that 'list of SWJ' folks going around on twitter yesterday. Its most every major video game site and personality, don't you start to question your own ideas when 100s of people are telling you to rethink things?

:: slow clap ::

I'm trying to rectify feeling the way I do with people I consider 'sad', like those who absolutely lost their shit when Princess Diana died. I go to myself 'why are you sad, you meant shit to that person and you didnt even know them.'

You made me feel a bit better today. Thanks chief.
