PS3 List: Brief Reviews

List of all my PS3 games, including a very brief review. Please see my full reviews for more.

List items

  • An excellent Call of Duty game. I bought this first mostly for the full online multiplayer, and so that I could play with my younger brother. Interestingly, there are also some story elements not available in the Wii version. A great Call of Duty game, but it also is far from perfect.

  • This is available on PSN as well... I played Risk competively online for over 2 years. This is a decent version, good for people who have not played much Risk but are intrigued by the idea. Unfortunately, finding a good online game is very difficult, and then they are plagued by length issues.

  • I personally think Katamari Damacy is one of the best PS2 games. This is a penultimate version, with amazing graphics. It also keeps the charm from the previous versions. The problems are all contained in the newest additions, including the two or three bizarre new level goals, and the broken SixAxis jump feature.

  • Never having played LBP, I was surprised at first. The game seems simple and boring, and the user created stuff is generally poor knock-off dual stick shooters. Two things completely change the entire experience: Finding someone else to play with and learning how to locate the best user created content.

  • Exceptionally well crafted, with a compelling story to boot. My major gripes with this game are the open world "jank" that has been well documented, and the fact that the best parts are not the missions. I would love to see this tech implemented instead in a more survival based game, where you are alone in the world, mostly against the elements. Also, the competitive multiplayer has almost no redeeming qualities.

  • Picked this up for free during the welcome back program. Will have more in the future, but so far it is an enjoyable, although fairly dull and easy, open world action game. The more I try the traversal stuff, the more I like it.

  • A second free pick up for the welcome back. The single player is so far enjoyable, but adding NOTHING to the WipeOut experience. The multiplayer is extremely well done, but of course as with all racing games, you either have rubber banding catch up and weapons, or you resign yourself to the fact that you will never see anyone else on the course. The graphics are gorgeous, and the soundtrack is typical WipeOut fun, although not as memorable as previous versions.

  • MULTIPLAYER BETA ONLY: So far, very enjoyable. Fixes all of my issues with CoD or other FPS games, and also fixes most of my Gears complaints. The levels are intriguing, the gunplay is solid, and matches generally work. However, the current hit detection and lag are tough (hopefully just a BETA issue), some gametypes are very unbalanced (the one flag style capture the treasure comes to mind), and there are too many perks, kill streaks, and other upgrade systems that make the game disjointed. Game is probably a purchase for me now, as before it was hardly on my radar.
