Fascinating, I didn't know about this before. I'm going to think twice before using PayPal in the future and probably never going to use PayPal if I ever ask for money on the internet.
I'm currently in the progress of writing a bot too. But since yesterday the site requires you to be logged in to receive data. Additionally it randomly cuts the connection without telling the client. I'm getting the feeling that I'm not welcome :D
It is a thin line you walk when you, on the one hand want to be reachable by your fans and on the other hand are trying to not get exposed to all the bad that some people on the internet have to offer. At the same time you still want to be able to express some opinions that not everyone has to agree with.
I liked the fact, that Phil Fish actually said things that sometimes started interesting discussions. Even though the things he said rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. And the fact that he would lash out if someone attacked him was also interesting in an age where most company and game developers try to be as blank of a canvas as possible. He was and is one of the interesting characters in this industry. Other indie devs like Team Meat have already retreated from the internet because there was just too much abuse, it is too bad that yet an other interesting voice has retreated.
I don't know how I would handle the abuse, especially after I looked at all the tweets after the announcement with Phil Fish in it. Maybe it is for the best for Phil Fishes mental health and quite frankly mine. Even I get angry when I look at those tweets (attacking Phil Fish). It is just such a shame. But maybe some people will ask them self the question, if it is ok to just negatively attack other people without knowing very much about them. Maybe something good can still come out of this hole affair.
Well have a look at what kind of stuff he get's tweeted at. + The fact that certain publications called him an asshole. OK, it was in a slightly positive way ( http://penny-arcade.com/report/article/why-you-want-assholes-to-make-your-video-games ), but still.
I don't know what I would do if was under constant assault for the things I say and constantly called an asshole. Other indies like Team Meat already left twitter. It is just not healthy.
Too bad I was looking forward to Fez II. Hope Phil is going to be ok.
