you could use a PS1 controller and hook ups on a PS2 The only reason you can't on a PS3 is no controller ports.  I will also bet they will pretend like Kinect and Move never happened, like they do now.
Actually, you can use PS2 controllers for the PS3. You just have to pay $5 for an adapter.
Can you just DIY it? I know with the original Xbox controllers(and S) you could just go ahead and cut off the end of the wire and solder it to a USB cord and it would work fine on your PC.

I am actually not concerned about disc based games having backwards compatibility. I do hope that all of the games i have downloaded on my 360 will be available on the next gen console.
Yeah actually I hadn't even thought about this but I really, really want this to be the case. Moreso than discs actually. It'd save them from rereleasing all the sickest 360 games ever, such as Uno and Catan.

My next gen PC has complete backwards compatibility!

Backwards compatibility since the 80s

70s if I'm right that there's some way to play those old PLATO games like Empire still kicking around on the internet.

Backwards compatibility is pretty great. You know they only just stopped selling used PS2 games at gamestops? Still though I think it's kinda up in the air whether they'll even bother including it, let alone giving full support for the previous platform's games. I get the vibe that MS and Sony think it's pretty inessential, partially because they'd rather sell HD copies of the big games and people would rather have the remakes anyway. People like me will probably have to keep the old consoles for at least some games I think.

I don't know any personally but I bet if you go on Team Liquid and send a PM to a progamer telling them what you're doing you could get a response no problem.

Single player is why I play Angry Birds.

Honestly this is part of the reason why I'm such a huge Elder Scrolls fan. There's one Elder Scrolls-branded game with multiplayer, but it's not part of the main series. Bethesda sticks to their guns: multiplayer takes valuable development resources from a mindblowing single player experience. I want really, really long single player games. I wouldn't even mind more games with some shoveldev-ed content(yeah I just coined that) like the procedurally generated quests that plagued Daggerfall. If there's content that's actually good mixed in and it's a fun game I'm more than willing to wade through something designed to eat up my time.

If you can find a copy, pick up The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard. Nothing like other Elder Scrolls games. You aren't exactly a pirate, but there's pirates in it, and you do a lot of swashbuckling. I bet it's like 5 bucks, I got it almost 10 years ago for 20 or so and that was complete with the paper map and all the other box materials.

Minecraft is obviously technically a game. His beef is that he wants predefined goals or objectives.

Sins of a Solar Empire sure didn't come out on Steam and it is a ridiculously badass game designed to fulfill all the desires of 4x(and scifi strategy games in general, such as Homeworld) fans with laser precision. Stardock also made Galactic Civilizations.

How do I attach an account in the first place? I don't see it in account settings. Do I need a pay account?

Completion's fun, dude. I like beatin' games. That's the whole point of playing hard ones, too.
