@verendus: As far as I know, they are claiming that their various patches and updates solve these kinds of problems. But this was the one and only GTA Online character I have had. Created it on launch day last week and carried him through the week. Looking on the Rockstar Social Club, I still have my banked cash. It also still showed my mission progress in GTA Online. But everything else was gone. When I try to enter GTA Online via the XBox 360, it puts me in the very first Create A Character screen.

@verendus: I hadn't bought any weapons since the SMG. I was trying to level up the off-road vehicles so I could buy a Turbo for my truck. So I had been playing off-road races and doing nothing else since about level 15 or 16. Sorry. Didn't buy any new weapons.

Logged on to do some more races. Lost my week of GTA Online progress, dozens of hours in the game, all of my vehicles, level progress, weapons, character... Everything gone.

Okay. Just tested this out. The recent patch must have fixed it, because wining a 1-player race did not advance me at all toward the unlock.

@thatdutchguy: It is more boring to try 16 times and lose every one of them. Plus, it's extremely frustrating.

I need to "win" 16 off-road races to unlock some cool stuff for my truck.

But I suck at driving in GTA.

Can I game the system and just host a bunch of 1-player races and "win" them sixteen times? (Yes, I know that I am "cheating" and "not playing the way the developers intended" and "only hurting my own experience" and "everything that is wrong with video games" and a "racist" for doing this. But cut me a teensy bit of slack, please. Thanks.)

I lose money (i.e. die) constantly, which makes it impossible to earn any. And yes, when you die, it take it out of your bank. Unless your are Mr. 1337 420 SnIpEdAwG MLG PRO MERC who can play the game without ever dying, then buying in-game currency will be required. Pretty nasty setup.

I turned a car in to Simeon and earned over $8000. The next mission I played (and replayed, twice) I died a total of six times. Lost all of that money.
