I’m really surprised at how good the music has been in the trailers this E3. And the tone has largely been on point too! Usually it feels like game trailers are trying too hard to ape movies and TV, but not this year. There’s a real confidence now.

Also this has been true for a few years now, but it is absolutely bonkers how high the bar is for visual fidelity now.

On the downside, there really needs to be a consolidation of events. Way too many publishers doing their own streams.

Glad I waited on playing FF7R. 60 FPS is major for me.

Skyward Sword has the best dungeons in the series by a mile, and the motion stuff is fun and novel when it works.

I loathed the game with a passion when it came out. The handholding is parodic levels of overwrought, and it didn’t help that it was running on an extremely dated engine (basically just a modified Wind Waker), and is super linear.

Came back to it a year later and loved it. I actually like how gamified and directed everything is, as compared to the long stretches of aimlessness found in open world games (I had just come off of playing Red Dead Redemption, which I found to be quite boring).

Also have to say I’m surprised by the framerate boost. Nintendo rarely does that with their remasters.

I wish you guys would play around with the show format when appropriate, or include time codes. When the headline of the show is a news story (as it often is), I think the news should come first. Maybe even have the emails first sometimes just to keep things fresh.

One of my favorite episodes of the Beastcast was an episode more or less dedicated to discussing and speculating the potential (or lack thereof) of VR, before any of the headsets had a consumer release. This was back when Austin was on the site; I think it was 2015. Those early days of the podcast were more freeform, and I liked that. It wasn’t just the Bombcast with different people.

Still like the show, but it’s gotten a little rote. I don’t mean to be harsh because I realize the current situation is not really ideal for being creative.

Yeah, it’s annoying how little Sony has invested into backwards compatibility. There are a lot of little things that are making me consider an Xbox for the first time, especially with Sony’s first party output not really doing it for me. I’m hoping MS’s acquisitions result in some pretty great stuff since I’m not really a Halo/Gears/Forza person. I’d love to use GamePass since I rarely finish games anymore, and would rather just get a taste of everything.

It was so cathartic to hear Ron mention the loss of his friends, as morbid as that may sound. Of course I wish they didn't make that decision, but I'm going through the darkest period of my life right now, and I needed to hear that I'm not the only one.

(Just to be clear, I'm not contemplating self harm.)

@mooncalf: Yeah it’s not there for me either.

Edit: Up now!

I enjoyed this. I don't think game trailers would actually show how games will be better or different on PS5 compared to previous generations, whereas this presentation told me exactly what the PS5 hardware will enable for game design and player experience.

Man this sucks.

While I've followed much of the GB staff since before GB even existed, Dan was a driving force in getting me hooked on the site's content. His enthusiasm was a perfect contrast to the world-weariness of the other staff. His naïveté and eccentricities have made me laugh on countless occasions. He's been the creative force behind almost every GB video series I've enjoyed.

On top of all that, his book "Anxiety as an Ally" got me to try meditation again, which has been hugely helpful for me.
