Did Vinny not play Human Revolution? For example, he seems clueless to the fact that Eliza is, indeed, the only mainstream broadcaster as well as to what she really is.
@betaband: It's been going downhill for a couple years now in terms of quality. All of their best folks were laid off or jumped ship and Danny is just the latest.
I've never been a huge fan of IGN and it seems Gamespot is becoming more and more like IGN every day.
Half the site is numbered lists, comic book movie news, Game of Thrones reaction videos and other random "geek culture" nonsense. A lot of stuff that seems like it's made to generate traffic through social media. They've been doing more "sponsored content" as well.
I miss the days of Escape From Mount Stupid, Random Encounter, House of Horrors, Reality Check, Feedbackula etc.
The Point was really the last remaining thread of the Gamespot i loved. Sigh.
Oh, I'm not defending the content on the site. My argument was just that you can't state a site is a "sinking ship" and "dead" just because you don't like the content. They're clearly striving in their demographic.
But to your point, yes, I miss those shows as well. I like what Mary is trying to do though with Resident Evil and the horror podcast. I used to love what GS UK did but seems they've been re-branded to Gamespot of Thrones.
The fact that Gamespot, a website about video games, has to cover Game of Thrones, Marvel movies/comics, and whatever the latest pop culture flavor of the week is to stay afloat is not what I would call "striving in their demographic". They couldn't survive covering just video games. They are desperate for a user base by loading their website with anything that fits the 15-35 year old male demographic.
I watched the video Danny mentioned he made about the 20th anniversary of Gamespot and was surprised to see a lot more people left in recent years than I had even thought. The old guard is completely gone. Even a lot of the newer staff members (less than 3 years) have left.
The Lobby has gone from an hour plus long show like On the Spot to a 10 minute video podcast. As far as I can tell the only new regular video series Gamespot does are The Lobby (10 minutes long now), The Point (now cancelled because Danny is leaving), News, New Releases, and Now Playing.
It's clear that Gamespot's heyday is long gone and it's unfortunate because I loved going to the site in the early to mid 2000s. After Jeff's firing they had an exodus of senior staff and I don't think they ever recovered. The extreme popularity of young YouTubers that can be easily manipulated by marketers and publishers for coverage are not doing large websites like Gamespot any favors.
Lets be honest here, the real reason for Gamespot's downfall is their video player sucks! There, I said it.
Oh DOTA, your streak of ruining every UPF you've ever been on continues. I think they've stared at DOTA menus more than the actual game
Yeah, I think the last time DOTA 2 was actually played on UPF was when Dan screwed around in that one match he did. Any other time has been staring at the menus. But I would prefer to stare at the menus than an actual match for 2 hours.
Really wish all the kids would get the 1.5 seconds of fame and quit sending dumb shit during these videos. I've been conditioned to look for something when I hear that Xbox alert chime.
I don't know why they don't disable the stupid notifications.
