- The idea that video games are just for kids and that they make kids violent (thanks to the media and older folks) - No DLC (not likely) - Rhythm games on a 3 year cycle rather than ever year (or every couple months with guitar hero) - No more stupid fantasy games with elves, orcs, etc. - (Remastered) Goldeneye released on 360 and PS3 just to screw with Nintendo - Every franchise available on every console - Complete removal of exclusivity / timed exclusives / exclusive DLC - And in general for game companies to actually have some balls and break a few boundaries socially through their games (Iraq War game, etc)
" "Mechanic" - When used to describe different elements of a game. "Walking mechanic", "Looting mechanic", "Duck-n-cover mechanic", etc. "
well what do you call it instead? "
It's not about calling it anything...it's the fact that people use that word to describe mundane and basic things. Yes, you can walk and talk in Mass Effect...to developers that may be a "mechanic" but to the press and general audience it's walking and talking. Just because something is available or interactive in a game doesn't mean it must be called a "mechanic" "
Well when discussing/comparing games you have to talk about the different mechanics involved. "
Not necessarily. You don't go up to someone and say "man i love Call of Duty's walking mechanic". I'm not arguing that the game doesn't have mechanics...all I'm saying is that people use the word "mechanic" to describe every facet of a game.
When I hear mechanic, I picture a huge box of labeled blocks saying stuff like "Walking", "Ladder", "Customization", etc. And you build it all up and say "oooo look at the mechanics".
