" so in 20 years for the fatalities to be shocking again are they gonna add a pregnant Alma from the FEAR series as a fighter? being shocking just to be shocking is boring. and major yawn at the art direction and same looking animations as all the other MK games. It just looks like they gave the engine a facelift. I wish they would have done something cool likechanging the art design that happened in SFIV. "
I think the shocking part of the new Mortal Kombat is they are trying to make it good again.

From the beta and free weekend, the game is interesting.  It is a real pity it is being published by Ubisoft.  The develop did a good job, the publisher is completely failing them.  Their obnoxious DRM scheme combined with their poor promotion of the game has pretty much doomed it.  Most people are going to be too busy going nuts over SC2 or Civ5 to even bother paying attention.

" I hate to say this, but it seems Jeff just "doesn't get it."   This is the lovechild of Castlevania and Diablo. If that sounds like your sort of thing, then buy it right now! "
To be fair, I would say most people don't get it.  Especially with the complaints that "multiplayer ruined it."  It isn't meant to be Symphony of the Night, it is more MMO raiding meets Castlevania gameplay.

" Now that I've seen and heard about Monday Night Combat, I'm pretty interested in that as well.  I'm also more interested in Lara Croft now! Looks like another solid lineup.  It's going to be tough to top Shadow Complex, Splosion Man, Trials HD, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2.  We'll just forget TMNT: Re-Shelled, folks.  This lineup, however, looks like it could trump it pretty well. "

They got some really heavy hitters in this line-up.  Monday Night combat looks to be pretty good, a new Castlevania with co-op, and the Tomb Raider reinvention (go find some gameplay trailers, it looks surprisingly good.)  That was a pretty amazing year, but this year just might top it.

" Ok so the Guys who made the G:I Joe Game and a Developer who has no experience in Shooters whatsoever are turning a successful TBS Series into an ''accessible''  Third  Person Shooter?  I can't see anything wrong with this Picture. "
My thoughts exactly, Double Helix has a history of making mediocre and bad games.  Square doesn't really make action games.  I'm not adverse to the concept of an action oriented Front Mission, but the studio behind it makes me doubt it will be any good.  I find studios with a history of bad games continue to make bad and mediocre games.

" I totally fucking knew this would get 3/5!   I can't wait to see people bitchin' all over that score and not even reading the review. Which is great as ever.  "
I think all but the most insane fanboys recognize this game has some issues.  The biggest thing has to be the corridors, which Brad is dead on about.  It just doesn't feel much like a Final Fantasy game until you hit disc 3.  Until then you are basically walking along a rather narrow predetermined path with zero room for exploration and cannot set your own party.  It feels like disc 1-2 are an extremely long and dull tutorial to the game.  I have a feeling that if this game was released under any other name it would have flopped.

Sad, but true.  Ever since they killed Westwood its been downhill.

" So basically, all he's trying to tell me is "this is a real-time strategy game"?  Because other than the RUSE stuff, there's not much difference yet between this and Company of Heroes...other than Company of Heroes being thorough, pedigree badassness. "
The beta on steam is only 2 gigs, download it and try it out.  It actually does play differently than most RTS games.  Most RTS games have a heavy focus on micro, RUSE on the other hand seems to have an extremely low micro requirement and is much more strategic in nature.  Its got a pretty simple interface and a fairly basic premise, so it is easy to learn.   Taking and holding strategic positions seems to be a big part of the game too.

" I hated the first STALKER. And this game looks exactly like the first STALKER. "
If you hated the first STALKER, you probably won't like this one either.  People who liked the first one will probably like this one.

STALKER has always been a unique experience. It is all about the atmosphere.   What is difficult to see in the quick look is that the world can be downright creepy and tense at times.  The game will really put you on edge at times.

It seams to be and Capcom is loving it with SFIV and there new game. "
Sometimes a 2D play field is the way to go.  Especially since there are so few games that feature 2D gameplay, so the good ones get noticed.
