Giantbomb...please....help....need to stop buying...SO MANY GAMES

Today I bought a new game!

The Game of the Year Edition of Civilization III! I got it at a yard sale for $2, and it was in excellent condition, almost new with everything there, almost never opened.

Awesome, huh?

No.

Because the day before I got The Movies for $6.

And about a week before I got Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon for $10.

And less than a week before I got Chrono Trigger, F-Zero, FF6, Street Fighter 2, and Super Punch-Out!! for the SNES.

All in one month.

I HAVE A LIFE, AND CANNOT PLAY ALL THESE GAMES. Stupid life.

So, in order to finish these games and the rest of the games I have yet to finish, I need to lock down and try to stop buying so many games, and it's getting really hard with New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Final Fantasy: The Crystal Bearers knocking down my door.

I need advice, Giantbomb. What do you guys to do to keep yourself from buying new games and actually finishing the games you already own?

But some that i bought are real valuable to me cause their awesome. but still.

I have my occasional moments of blowing money on Steam with their sweet deals, but I always know that they are on the back burner.

It's okay to get a few games here and there if you can get them for cheap, but doing it often is not a good thing.

Hey

I never have more than 2 or 3 games on a rotor at any given time. I have to complete one of them before buying another which means you don't impulse buy and u enjoy the ones you do have to the full.

Simple really

(WARNING REQUIRES WILLPOWER) lol

I recently bought copies of Kameo and Amped 3 that I haven't touched yet. It's got to be stopped.

I think I have it as bad, if not worse.  Just this week, on Friday and Saturday I bought:
Fallout Tactics for the PC ($5)
Dragon Quest  V for the DS ($20)
Star Ocean: Last Hope Special Edition for the 360 ($70)
Geometry Wars Galaxies for the Wii ($13)
We Love Golf for the Wii ($19)
Disgaea 3 for the PS3 and I don't have one ($30)

and that is just 2 days.  on top of that, I have bought this month:
Mirrors Edge for the 360 ($25)
Prince of Persia for the 360 ($25)
Shaun White's Snowboarding for the Wii ($20)
Harvest Moon: Tree of Happiness for the Wii ($50)
Soul Nomad for the PS2 ($20)

That is 11 games (and $297) this month alone!!!!!!   I am off to Hobart for the weekend and I will be visiting all the game stores, so I don't think it ends here.

We may need to form a association:
"Hello, my name's oldschool and I buy too many games"
"Hello oldschool"

None of life's problem can't be solved by playing a computer game.  Just give in to it.

I feel like I've been getting a little out of hand too, but dude, too many deals have been so good lately that it's hard to pass up on them. I just got Stranglehold, Dark Sector, and Stuntman Ignition on 360 for $20 combined. Dark Sector was the greatest $3 I've ever spent in my life. It's actually way better than expected. Kind of has a Gears of War and RE5 feel to it, but you know, not THAT good. Still, though, it's been a pretty solid game throughout. I also jumped on Amazon and Toys R Us's Buy 2 Get 1 Free game sales, but that was mainly early birthday shopping and getting a jump on Christmas shopping for family. All in all, I feel like I've come away like a bandit here, so it's hard to beat myself up for it, but still I feel kind of guilty for getting so many games in such a short time.

I just love Civilisation, but I have IV complete and I am afraid to play it, as it can suck me for up to 8 hours straight gaming.

The Movies is really a neat simulation game (I also have the expansion pack (Stunt Effects I think), but also a game that risks eating your time.

I wish I could pick up Fire Emblem for $10, you lucky bastard.  Excellent buy.

I hope you don't have a girlfriend  ^-^  You don't need more distractions.

Damn, this topic reminds me I have Assassin's Creed II and Borderlands sitting on my desk.... JUST SITTING THERE while I play MW2. I don't know what it is about that game, but I just can't take the game out of my 360. Not yet anyway... I don't feel too bad though about buying lots of games now that I have a job.

Next time you have the urge to buy a brand new game you don't need, give yourself a little stab in the leg with something sharp. You'll either learn to stop buying so many new games or associate the stabbing with good things and develop an addiction to stabbing yourself.

Ever been to Ross? It's a girly discount store I take my grandmother to shop. But they have things that are no longer being sold from the major retailers, brand new, at very cheap prices.

That copy of The Movies was brand new unopened for $6, since no-one bought it when it was being sold at Walmart.

Some crappy advice from my part then.
Be a little more selective.
Pick only the games you (know you) will enjoy.
Think of better ways you could spend the money that you'll save by not buying all these games.
Buy a present for someone or something that really is useful in your household.

i don't know, i've been playing my old games for a while. rented Brutal Legend, playing that now along with MW2 (Just beat veteran, going back to MP), playing through GTAIV again for no reason (played on an offline account, going through on my live account), and I felt like getting around to doing an evil playthrough on FO3.
But i'm also getting ACII and God of War collection for christmas, along with possibly Dragon Age or episodes from Liberty City...so I can't help you? ACII should take a while, and God of War collection is of course 2 games, so i'll be playing those for quite a long time.

Give all your money to charity, then you won't be able to buy anymore games.  It's foolproof!
