My Top 10 Games of 2012

Fuck everyone else's list, here's the real top 10 games of the years motherfuckers!!! I realise this is just getting in at the end of the year but i only finished Far cry 3 last night, and it is still 2012.

Also, here's the games i played this year but didn't make the list.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (i only played the demo).

Gotham City Impostors (i only played the beta, have it installed on steam but have never touched it).

Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit (Played an hour or so, it's okay, might go back to it).

Madden NFL 13 (more madden, it's alright, but didn't play a lot).

WWE '13 (only played this at Martins, seemed okay).

Tribes Ascend (played a few hours with Paul, seemed fun but never grabbed me).

FIFA Street (Played a couple of times with Jack, interesting take and a nice change of pace to normal football).

PlanetSide 2 (Constantly crashes after 15 mintues for me, stopped me getting into it i think).

Darksiders II (I'll go back to this when i have more time and it's possible i'd have it on here if i had played more of it).

Super Monday Night Combat (This game deseerves more people playing it than their currently is, spent an entire Sunday playing nothing but this, good times).

Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 (It's more Magic: the gathering, Good way to kill some time. Got it and it's expansion for like £3 so can't complain).

Worms Revolution (Good for a laugh, espically at the price i paid for it).

Diablo III (if this had kept going as well as it did after 2 acts then you'd have the winner here, as it is it's not even on the list. Not to mention that every play through i did made me like it less and less. Oh and the always online bullshit can eat a dick aswell, if this is something that is here to stay then this will be the last blizzard product i buy).

FIFA Soccer 13 (more FIFA, can't complain).

Halo 4 (Apprently this was the year of Deus ex machina, and the ending to this was right their in bullshit terms (although worst ending will come later). That aside, i still enjoyed my time playing through the campaign.

Journey (an impressive, if very short, experience. Had some truely memorable moments and i did feel some kinship with my pal through out the game. That said, it's JUST going to miss out on this list. I still really enjoyed my time with this game).

  • I love that this game was even allowed to be made because it really shouldn't be allowed to. With "current market trends" (thanks for that one Tim Schafer) this game should never have been funded. I love that it was allowed to do so and that it stayed as close to the orginal as it did and was all the better for it. It gives me hope that we aren't going down a dark path were every game is either a first or third person shooter. It's another great example of a game not having to have a great narritive to have a great story. The story of this game is how you played through each mission and the things that went on in those missions rather than an epic tale told to you. Sure in the story the Aliens might have been pissed off that i conquored their secret base, But that doesn't tell the story of how it happend, that was all me. It didn't tell how Paul got Mind controlled into shooting Frank during that mission and how I had race forward through drone fire to arc throw the commander sectoid to save both of them. It's those moments that make this game what it is, and what makes it for me, the best game released this year.

  • Torchlight 2 is the new diablo game i've been waiting on for a decade. This feels like a squeal to diablo 2 more than Diablo 3 does. The story might be basic but it does it's job well enough. Good guy has turned bad, he needs to die, follow him until you catch up to him and put him out of his misery. Even with that basic of a story i found myself doing everything i could because it's just fun to play through. It's not the loot grind that diablo 3 is. they make the fact that you should be enjoying yourself while playing the game the priority, not the end game content. I played through this for 40 hours and enjoyed myself every moment of the way. It's just the right amount of difficulty and their is a proper death penalty that makes you still fear death but not leave you fustratded or pissed off. I'm looking forward to plaything through this again on NG+ just to take it all in again. It's fun alone but playing with friends probably takes this to a even great height, you fucks just need to go and buy the game now!

  • It's been called Skyrim with guns but i think thats a bit of a diservice to both it and skyrim. The journey your character goes through from Dudebro to badass mercanery is really well told. I honestly never really grew to like the main character but didn't mind that, i don't think your suppose to. The game is a nice big open adventure that lets you make your own unquie moments to remember aswell as having a thought provoiking story. Being in the middle of clearing out a outpost of enemies when a bear attacks me was one of the craziest things that happend to me, but their is lots of moments like that and thats what i had fun doing. The hunting aswell is fun to do and serves a proper purpose in game rather than just being a distraction. Plus Vaas is easily the Villian of the year if not overall Character of the year. It's just a shame he's not in it more.

  • "Do you feel like a hero yet?". This is one of the last lines said in the game and it really is a terimendous way of talking to not only the Character, but to you as the player aswell, and this is what makes this game so great. In pretty much every game we play we're the hero, the saviour who will battle back the darkness and evil. It's not a bad thing, it's a common thread in fiction. What i love about this game is that it plays on those expectations. You expect that your here to save Dubai from the evil that has befallen it. It does a fantastic job of slowly breaking that down as your character goes more and more insane due to the post-tramitic stress he has, caused by you trying to be the 'hero' half way through the story. The gameplay might not be the best, but you owe it to yourself to play through it Just stick it on easy and play through the best military shooter story since Call of Duty 4.

  • I feel like i've spent the past 9 months talking about this game so i'll be breif. The Good: The majority of this game is more mass effect 2 and is therefore fantastic. It has easily my favorite moment of the year with the end of the genophage mission ("had to be me, someone else might have gotten it wrong"), I'm willing to say that i got a little misty eyed here. Interacting with your old charcters is fun and engaging. When it's at it's best, there is nothing that will beat mass effect. The Bad: The side quest were all lame fetch quests and Characters , although great to seee and interact with again, seemed to show up a little too convieniantly during some side missions (no these aren't the same as the side quests i mentioned). The Ugly: Mass Effect 3's ending broke my heart. If the game had ended 10 mintues before it did i'd have named this number one. And no amount of new ending DLC, retcon's and deeper explanations will ever take away the feeling i had at half 5 in the morning when i finished this. Botched doesn't even really cover it.

  • By all rights i should hate Max Payne 3. They have changed so much about the setting and tone of the story that it really isn't even a Max Payne game any more, just a game that Max Payne happends to be in. Still i found this game really sucking me in with it's narritive and gameplay. It's depressingly dark and the characters are all almost universally unlikeable but it's still great to see them all meet an untimely demise in one way or another. Plus the ending was surpisingly upbeat, and that is honestly becoming more and more of a rareity. these days.

  • Story is becoming a bigger and bigger part of mmo's. The Old Republic and Guild Wars 2 probably do their story's better than this game, but this game has something they don't, a unquie setting. The premise of this game is simply great. I personally love the Stephen King\Lovecraft starting zone of New England, and all the crazy conspiarcy theorys that turn out to be true there-in. The investiagstion missions are some of the most fun i've had all year, i had to make notes for this that if anyone else was to look at them, they would think i'm a crazy person. Good stuff and with no sub anymore, you should really give it a shot if you've yet to do so.

  • Killing things and looting them. Thats pretty much all you need to know about Borderlands 2 and why it's on here. It's got plenty of crazy and over the top characters and the story is suitably silly with just a touch of seriousness to it. I had fun with what i have played if it, and look forward to playing more of it. Bring friends for best effect though.

  • I've only recently gotten into "rogue like" games, espically given their recent reivial. I honestly think FTL is the best example of one i've played so far. I know going into the game that their is a 95% chance i will not beat the flagship (i've only done it once in about 20 odd playthroughs) but thats okay. It's the journey that is the fun part of this game, not the pay off. If i've got an hour to kill i'm more than happy to kill it with this game and watch as my guys all get spaced or blown up.

  • Stealth games are done, they can pack up and go home because this is pretty much the best they will get. There is no bullshit getting spotted behind walls here, no dumb enemies who look for you for a second and then go back to sleep (looking at you skyrim) and no brute forcing your way through a level. You have to play this stealthily but it's a lot better for it. I really enjoyed playing this and trying to get through as much of the level without killing someone as i could and looking for the collectables.
