@tehpickle: thanks for engaging. i agree that its important that the true figure of about 0.6% rather than 0.2% is used (forty years on), so I apologise for linking to something trying to so blatantly distort the truth.

I have a question for those who voted Conservative, or would have voted Labour otherwise. No judgement, just I'd like to hear an opinion

How do the Mail/Sun front pages make you feel? More or less likely to vote Tory? You agree, or disagree but not enough to change your mind?

And if you can't be bothered to read about Diane Abbott, then this sentence is probably most pertinent.

"Diane went to Cambridge University to study history. IN THE SEVENTIES. In 2017 only 15 black kids went to Cambridge."

https://cookingonabootstrap.com/2017/06/07/we-need-to-talk-about-diane-abbott-now-explicit-content/ - the diane abbott is stupid thing is wierd to me. she's a black woman in a what at least when she started was a heavily white man dominated field, yeah she's going to fight back against the system and throw a bit back, and i have no problem with that. but is she stupid? to do what shes done? don't buy it. regardless, she's not going to be home secretary.

As for the McDonnell and Corbyn are Marxists and Communists, their manifesto says nothing of the sort. Paxman even tried to say it wasn't left wing enough in a surprising line of questioning, and I agree, they're not going nearly far enough, and not focusing on the poorest in society, more the middle which May claims to be representing. It's actually a shrewd move and is targeting Tory voters, people who've done alright but recognise their parents and children are going to find it tough under austerity. Let's remember the turnout isn't going to get above 70% and they're not going to do much for the bottom 20% but then hardly any of them vote. The Lib Dems have a manifesto which will work for the very poorest in society to be fair to them. It really is a left-centrist platform and I don't think Corbyn is trying to get in by stealth and suddenly dismantle the monarchy, he's just well aware that the Tories aren't interested in funding services or chasing taxes.

I'll fully concede that you may have come to your conclusion completely independently of what has been going around for the past two years, and you didn't mention the IRA so I can believe it to a point. But to handwave away the leader of the opposition, who 30+% of the country are going to vote for as a communist or terrorist sympathiser is unexplainable in my eyes. I will never vote Tory, but I can believe that they believe their way of doing things is right. That people need to pull themselves up with their bootstraps and the social safety net stops that. I don't handwave them away as Nazi's. I think you become an extremist as soon as you label the other side as extremists, they're just doing what they think is right.

@machofantastico: Apathy is what lets politicians get away with anything because they're not all the same. I'd be interested in what your consituency is, but I'd be certain I can quickly prove they're not all the same.

All the best!
