I've lost interest

I'm a sophomore in college and although a good portion of my friends are games enthusiast, I just can't get excited about video games anymore. I really try to, but I just can't lose myself in a game like I could in high school. I always start to feel when I'm playing that my time could be better spent doing something else. This realization came to me when I decided to cancel my Skyrim pre-order on Amazon. Part of me really wants to get that game because of my fond memories of Oblivion, but another part of me knows that it will probably end up never getting played.

Maybe I feel this way because of how busy I currently am with school and work, but I think I might be generally losing interest. My real passion is tech, I'm a Computer Science major. I'm thinking I'll sell my consoles so I can buy an Android tablet. I probably wont be posting here very often once that happens, so I just want to say that it's been rad. I love this community and I've conversed with some awesome people over the years on this site. Farewell my friends.

@Wolverine:

probably a smart move anyways. Videogames distract me from my college work all the time.... that's probably why I'm still here.

These dramatic and heartfelt gaming farewells on the forums always give me a little chuckle.

I havent brought my console to university with me... but i will probably bring it up when i go home for the holidays. While i wont say i am desperate, there have been a few occasions where i wished i had it around. ANd while im not going to be playing games nearly as much as i used to, Playing video games is somethng i enjoy, and im sure i'll still be doing it many years down the line.

Best of luck with your degree and maybe see you around here again sometime in the future.

It's called life, and it blows. I know since I got this job my game time has dropped to zero. By the time I get home from work I'm too tired to do anything let alone play a game, and when I wake up it's time to go to work to repeat the process. Do what ya gotta do and all that crap.

Yeah, I'm starting to feel that too. The last two years I've bought way more games than I bother to finish.

It's just, I don't know, apathy.

There is something about the age group that frequents this site and the occurrence of this feeling. This demands science!

People get older and priorities change. When I managed game stores, I'd always be up on the latest everything. Not so much now since I've gotten older, I'm working on a career change and starting a family. Can't game like my bachelor days anymore, that's just how it goes.

Could be just a phase. Last time I played a video game for more than ~20 minutes was in late August/early September (I'm in University as well). Even got sick of watching my favourite let's players on youtube. However, I've been watching a lot more content across the Whiskey sites (I've really enjoyed watching old TNT's and have become a huge fan of Tested) as of late, so there's that. Part of me just doesn't want to play anything that will have me investing a large amount of time to get something out of it. I was super excited for Dark Souls and Skyrim, but not so much now. When I do want to play a game, it's something that I could play for several hours in one sitting, but don't need to in order to have fun (the FPS multiplayer genre has become very appealing to me as of late). When I play RPG's with vast, open worlds (my favourite type of game), I need to be able to sit down and play for hours on end to feel like I had fun.

In any case, safe travels, good sir. Maybe hop on over to the Tested forums if you get a Tablet to tell us how you're finding it. :)

You'll come back to them. I tried to quit them twice and came back. They are evil. But so good.

Its really easy to get burnt out of games.. well, at least for me. Thats why I only play like 5-8 hours a week most weeks. The rest of the time I just watch the guys on GB play games. Best of luck to you sir.

I know how you feel. Whenever I start to enjoy a really good ice cream my mouth starts to get numb and I can't taste the beautiful frozen treat anymore.

Best of luck to you. Do what makes you happy. Unless it's something really really evil, in which case, don't do that.
