My top 10 games of 2013.

Well here we go. No PC games as I only have an old laptop.

Honorable Mentions:

The Legend of Zelda : A Link Between Worlds (Only got this on Christmas day)

Tales of Xillia (Really enjoying this but had to cut for #10)

  • I was really looking forward to see what Naughty Dog would give us in a post Uncharted world and I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed the world and Naughty Dog did a great job of bringing it live. The game has so many powerful moments that resulted in me pausing and setting the controller down for several minutes. I found the game play to be incredibly rewarding and gave me the same tense feeling of survival that I had with the early Resident Evil games. Honestly I find it hard to say anything negative about The Last of Us in any way.

  • GTA V sets up an incredible believable world that is just amazing to be in. I found myself every now and then stopping and looking around at how well realized the open world before me was. I’m amazed that Rockstar was able to get as much out of these systems as they did. The characters start out a little on the generic side but they do grow and you witness them evolve with the situations happening. The highlight is the heist missions which give the option of you want to carry them out. If only the game had more of them. It was head to head between this and The Last of Us for the top spot but it only just fell short due to GTA online. I feel the issues that plagued it’s launch and then once it was up and running I found it a little underwhelming. You should come to GTA V for the single player and if GTA Online is for you I’d say it’s a nice bonus.

  • This was my first Fire Emblem experience. The amount of buzz surrounding it piqued my interest enough to eagerly wait for the UK release. Upon getting my copy I easily sunk 20+ hours in within the first week. Presented with a diverse and fun set of characters to interact with and backed with a good story. Interactions and relationships with party members can be incredibly funny as well. Great tactical game play with the risk of losing characters when perma-death is enabled lead to each encounter being tense and rewarding.

  • When you consider all the things that happened with the development of this game I was a little anxious when I got my copy. Granted the world is lifted straight out of Saints 3 with some graphical tweaks but it didn’t detract from the experience. Volition has shown their ability to make the insane scenarios filled with great comedic moments. Super powers are pretty dumb and fun too. Hopefully Saints V has a steadier development.

  • My sole reason for purchasing a PS Vita. Having to wait until February 2013 after the US launch in 2012 kept making me doubt that we’d see a UK release and force me to import a copy. Thankfully it reached our shores. This was my first complete play through of Persona 4 after getting about halfway through on the PS2 version. The world is so easily to get absorbed into with a great cast of characters and music. The expanded events and features add some nice extra depth.

  • This game is simply bonkers. I know Rising went through a lot of delays and ended up just being handed over to Platinum but I feel like they captured what an action game set in the MGS universe should be. From throwing a Metal Gear Ray to fighting an evil senator, Rising just grabs and drags you along no matter how stupid things get. This is pure stupid fun.

  • I really enjoyed the world set up in Infinite. Columbia is a magical, well designed place to explore. Multi-verse stories can easily fall apart when you try to break them down. If you don’t do that and take the story at face value it is incredibly enjoyable. The game play is pretty enjoyable, even it is rather easy on its default setting. Mixing gun play with vigors allow you to approach each encounter differently. Song Bird is an awesomely designed character too.

  • Ok technically The Last Story came out in 2012 but I didn’t track a copy down until this year. This game is practically my perfect game. It feels like a Final Fantasy world crossed with Gears of war-like game play elements, backed with great characters and a great British localization. The Last Story left such an impact that I had to put it on here.

  • It’s Pokemon again but with some new additions and tweaks to make more enjoyable. Even though I’m not in a group that play pokemon together I always enjoy just catching new pokemon and raising them to their evolved forms.

  • I would put this higher but I have yet to complete it. I put a lot of time into the demo and even more in the retail version. This is the Final Fantasy game I have been wanting for. An incredible art style and great music bring the world to life. The job system is very well done. I am looking forward to putting much more time into this.
