Also, people complaining about Ben's segment... come on. GeoGuessr kicks ass.

Hm. Does Embiggen make the video bigger than the actual size of the screen for anyone else?

Sure does.

While both are still very rough at the core, I also think a lot of of the game and physics feel better than SkaterXL, but I would say the skater relative controls for switch / fakie stance tricks in XL are way more more natural and keep things fluid compared to Session, which flips the controls and directions on the sticks based on your current position to the game camera. It feels so artificial and video gamey by comparison.

Especially when you start throwing 180s, manuals, reverts, or some combination of those which can really can really mess with you after the controls reverse, and also add significant delay on the inputs to when they reverse and start responding again.

I can't speak for how Skater XL does it, but it seems to make sense to me? One stick is your left foot and the other is your right, so even though it's hard to get used to, it seems like a reasonable way to do it. It's only "flipped" in the sense that you'll have to pull down on a different stick if you're in switch stance because well, sure, you'd be snapping/flicking with the opposite feet.

That said, there's an option in the menus to change it so that one stick is always back foot and the other is front. I haven't used it though.

@loktarogar / @kazzerscout: The camera can be pulled back, and a lot of the clipping is a result of when Jeff switched to the OG character, who's just kind of there for laughs more than anything. Insofar as the speed, it's relatively slow, but what Jeff didn't know and what the game does a bad job at telling you (in that it flat out doesn't tell you) is that unlike Skate where three pushes (iirc) gets you going to max speed, to get really pumping in Session you need to mash the push button. It's still a somewhat slow paced, methodical game, but it feels much better once you can actually get cooking.

I've been having a lot of fun with this. It's clearly extremely early and full of bugs, but it feels really good to nail a trick in even a way that Skate never quite captured. Really excited to see where it goes from here.

It's getting me interested in starting up skating again, which for the record I wasn't ever good at, for the first time in like 15 years.

I dont know, maybe tone it down a few notches.

That very page states that it has to be judged on context, though. Sure, sometimes it's used by neo-Nazis too stupid to realize that cops are on their side, but that doesn't make it pure hate speech lmao.

Also, ACAB.

are you not supposed to go for big combos in this game? cus ben and brad are only going for single lines 99% of the time

No, you definitely are. I don't think single lines even send any lines over to other players. Though if I remember correctly from back when I was watching very good players, the most effective move was t-spin clears, which is a level of Tetris I will never reach.

Cool stuff in here, but very discouraging to not hear a single word about Super Mario Maker 2. What's going on with the supposed upcoming patch to play with friends? Any DLC plans? Fuck, even news about an equivalent to the SMM1 bookmark site would be huge to me. As far as I know the game's been successful, so to give off the impression that they've released it and immediately stopped caring about it doesn't make me happy.

@benpack: Bit of trivia regarding that ad you were looking at on the back of the pizza magazine. The ad was for La Nova, a local pizza restaurant here in Buffalo, NY. The pizza's fine, but more than anything it is known for being owned by the leader of Buffalo Mafia. Back when I was an idiot high schooler I did not know of this and asked if I could videotape some footage in there for a school project. To say the least, they did not respond kindly to my request.

Good game design: Player has left the area -> remaining players can't keep up with the number of enemies -> mission failure because everyone died.

Rockstar game design: Player has left the area -> mission failure because player has left the area.

I get the sentiment behind this, but this is an impossible thing to balance.
