@the_tribunal: oh I could listen to it just not while working and I would have to be prepared to disagree fundamentally with almost everything said. They had two articles recently that I wish I could have commented on as I found various parts of them ridiculous. (I mean as a libertarian I am no fan of Trump but the idea we have entered some kind of dystopia of the likes shown in inside is rather silly) Likely in a smart move though they don't allow commenting on their site. I would like to think mine would be productive and rise to the level of intellectual debate Austin brings but then I look over my facebook feed ...

Also anyone know anything about the idle thumbs book podcast? The other thing I like to do besides game is read and I expect if it is the same people any books they find would be interesting.

Other than Idle Thumbs I would recommend Idle Weekend and Waypoint Radio for something a bit more serious or Coolgames Inc for something more silly and comedy focused.

Waypoint Radio would be way to far away from what I believe I feel like to be useful to listen to while working. When ever Austin started talking about politics or economics here I had to check myself in responses.

Listened to the very first idle thumbs podcast today - wow. That was a thing. Hilarious in parts and then truly odd listening to what people thought about games that didn't turn out to be good when they came out. This should be interesting.

I think I have listened to most Bombcasts but may see if I can find some old ones that interest me. Austin's game tastes and his general intellectual focus I really did like so may listen to some old beastcasts hmm.

So I have started listening to the beastcast and the bombcast when I do the more mundane less thought provoking parts of my job (answering emails, patent searching). Unfortunately I run out of podcast before I run out of easy mind numbing parts of my job. Any other good podcasts out there? I listen to three moves ahead some but usually they make me end up wanting to play games I don't have time or money for so had to stop listening to them...(expect when they talk about games I already own or when Austin visits).

Thanks!

Couple issues with the survey on Giant Bomb right now. It came up twice for me on different days - so I took it twice. Not sure if that is what you want or not. Also you are missing a genre. The wonderful genre of turn-based strategy. Real-time strategy is there yes but turn based strategy is very different. No one who has played starcraft or warcraft would confuse civilization with it. I know it isn't as popular as realtime strategy but it does still exist - as stellaris and civ prove. I mean it was generally one of Austin's favorite genre's wasn't it? Either way is one of mine so it should be included!

Thanks!

Just finished up taking an advertiser survey (I assume it was advertiser) on Giant Bomb. Through and well made from a marketing perspective except for one thing. You ask game genres that people like and play - sensible question except you left off a major genre. TBS. No not turner broadcasting service - turn based strategy - you had the inferior cousin real time strategy but not the granddaddy. I know the genre is not as popular now but it does still exist. Led by the likes of civilization it is strong actually..

So I have an Android smart phone now (very late I know) so what games for it are great? I don't want to fall down a free to play spend to much money get addicted whole - but I have been enjoying plant vs. zombies and the FF trip down memory lane game was fun. Game types I enjoy - RPG especially old CRPG though phantasy star I love as well. I also love strategy games like Civilization.

Thanks!

@zaldar: I wouldn't really call it competition. Like you mentioned, Waypoint is in a way different avenue than Giant Bomb. Sure, Giant Bomb does have meaningful critique on video games and their place in society, but the bread and butter is the gonzo goofiness, whereas in Waypoint it's the other way around. I actually recommend following their Twitch and/or Youtube channel even if the main site isn't for you, because the game streams they have tend to be more relaxed and while not necessarily less political, at least less argumentative about that I guess. Just watching Austin play games and get excited about them is something all of us needs from time to time.

Yea I may watch the videos sometimes as the ones I watched over on waypoint reminded me how much I loved Austin. And though I could get into the stuff he tried to talk about on podcasts and such at times it eventually became to much. Likely because, as a libertarian, I am 100% diametrically opposed to his philosophy. I expect this is because the things we value are exactly opposite. I mean even the trump comments in the beginning (which were not bad and as a libertarian I am no fan of trump) almost became to much. Knowing what is coming historically his comments about falling into the "evil" reality were rather hilarious though. I expect they will get back to that during the "tetris segment" but I expect I will skip it.

Still the types of games he like (story involved strategy - grand strategy) are the types of games I like. As such checking out the new games he talks about would be great to see. I would not have gotten into crusader kings if not for him - and I have had some great fun with that game.

I do hope they put up more of it I watched through all of the 4 direct videos they have up now and they were great. I especially want to see more of the play through of long live the queen - the bits of that they had up were hilarious. More anime talk would be great too - though I am not as much a fan of Naruto and Jojo as the people they had on (give me ghost int he shell or evegellion over those silly really for kids shows any day)

Also, Patrick on Twitter confirmed that Jeff flew up to New York to appear on Waypoint. He visited GBeast in the process, but it sounds like the main purpose of the trip was to be there for Austin & Patrick.

Kind of heartwarming; they're starting up their new gaming website and he basically flies up to attend it like a wedding. Aw...

That is really cool. Nothing like friendly competition. Waypoint will likely not be for me (looking over vice I miss commenting and they are very political) but glad to see Austin doing well I always enjoyed what he brought to giant bomb.
