I know we have some people who love simulation games here - anyone done this? If Drew was staying might be able to get giant bomb to send him to do it and report on it. (sigh I will miss Drew). Think this is going to be the next thing people like Swery and Kojima do to get the authentic feel for things in video games? A swery game involving shooting tanks would be rather hilarious...
I love the fact the weed store has a non weed name and the doughnut store has a weed name. Especially as a trademark lawyer I find that hilarious. The beer wall have cider? I am not much into hops or beer so...and yeah pikes market cliche as everyone and their brother recommends it - guess I should go then ;)
Traveling to Seattle at the end of the month. Any bombers want to meet up ;). Any great places I should see video or not video game related. I know the Bungie offices are in Seattle but really don't play Bungie games as I am a pc gamer.
@magmamud: It's not really about comparing band to band, it's more that new metallica albums are usually labeled "not metal enough" by the metal crowd, but you'll find them played right next to nickleback on modern rock radio. My point being is, I just don't see anything that would make this a metal song. Its pretty slow, pretty straight forward composition to flow right into that mainstream rock radio sound. Sure, it has pretty heavily distorted guitars, but that is about it. Nickelback has always had amazing sounding heavy guitars on their songs, comes with money I guess. I'd liken this to something like Breaking Benjamin, it's just a heavy rock song.
The definition of heavy metal has constantly evolved, bands like Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith were considered 'metal' in the 70's, but by today's standards that comparison probably wouldn't fly. Nickelback has actually had A LOT of songs heavier than this in their back catalog. If interested I'd go back in time and listen to some of their albums before they got noticed at all. Very much grunge influenced, more experimentation, and fairly heavy at times. I'm not crapping on Nickelback or anyone who enjoys them, I just don't feel like this is a metal song. To each their own!
The idea that Aerosmith isn't metal is ridiculous - but then I listen to operatic metal like Nightwish and I also listen to Baby Metal so...
So we all know Dan (along with others here but lets be honest mostly Dan) loves to cast shade on Anime. Though he loves professional wrestling which could be said to have many of the same characteristics. I mean Dragonball and other Shonen is basically professional wrestling. Then there are anime shows that take on professional wrestling in a more direct way. Most recent example being the most recent episode of Akiba's Trip the animation....thought I would ask others for examples like this see if we can convince Dan to opine on some of these shows. Thoughts?
So is it to gauche to make a topic where we rate the holiday spectaculars using the game of the year format? I want to put a vote in for the beastcast....man these are great. Can we find a scriptwriter to turn these into movies? I thought nothing was going to beat Vinny singing Jesus Christ ... but then Alex gives us a half robot half racist southern cop from the Dukes of Hazard....
