PS1 collection

The redesigned PS One was the first big purchase I had made with my own money. I had so many fun times with that system. Here is a list of games that I still have today.

List items

  • Played this after Retro Helix. The ending of Retro Helix made more sense.

  • I liked the cell shading art style of this game. I was disappointed when Fear Effect 3 was cancelled. I started print out of F.A.Q.s for this game to get past the puzzles.

  • The manual that came with the game had nice art work from Yoshitaka Amano. I became a fan of his work ever since.

  • My first turn based strategy game. I would make extra moves or hit my own guys to gain more experience. I also got into the habit of reloading an old save to not permanently lose dead characters.

  • It was great that the first two Final Fantasy games were remastered for PS1. The problems is that I never got around to finishing both games.

  • I played this game during the PS2 era. I do not have much fondness of it as other people do. The music is amazing.

  • Lot of reading menu boxes. It is was very deep game.

  • Fell in love with character design and art style. I appreciate that Zidane is more upbeat than Squall and Cloud.

  • There was a point in my life that I was obsessive about Mortal Kombat. Thankfully I resisted buying Sub-Zero Mythologies and Special Forces.

  • I really like this game but did not get around to finishing it. Became a fan of Kazuma Kaneko's character design.

  • I did not start playing Resident Evil games until after Code: Veronica. I only played through the Jill scenario because she can carry more items. The cheesy cinematics and poorly translated dialog gave the game charm.

  • I bought this game and the Director's Cut when it was on the Greatest Hits label. I had a great time playing this game.

  • Not as much fun as playing resident Evil 2 but had a good time. I was amazed that Jill Valentine can run around in tank top and not have a wardrobe malfunction.

  • Really enjoyed the music in the game. Had more fun using the debug menu to cheat. It's disappointing that this franchise has not evolved to better games.

  • A huge improvement from the previous game. The mission level creator is a great addition. It sad that this was the last game Mary Kay Bergman voiced before she committed suicide. She is best know for voicing all the female characters in South Park.

  • This game made me enjoy Street Fighter again. I was playing a lot of Mortal Kombat at the time and became disinterested in SF. The game was on sale at a Game Stop and I bought it. The animations and art style is way better then what I remembered from SF2. The only draw back is this game goes not support analog control. Playing a fighting game with digital control can wear down the thumb.

  • The reason why I like playing video games. At the time is was the amazing game I ever played. It was like looking at the future. I never thought a console can do so much. I thought the story was better realized then most Hollywood action movies at the time. The game play mechanic have not aged well. This game helped raise the medium of video games to a higher level.

  • An expansion for Metal Gear Solid. I wished it had more levels playing as the Cyborg Ninja. Wished that Konami released Metal Gear Solid: Integral in North America.

  • One of the best RPGs that Squaresoft has released. The story was bit hard to follow but an excellent game. A must have for JRPG fans. The game is more cheaper on PSN than what I payed for brand new 2001. $40 dollars as opposed $10. It's disappointing that Xenogears spiritual successor--Xenosaga--could not carry the mantle.

  • At the time I first played the game. Did not think of how hardware limitations dictated game play mechanics. The game being set at night, fog to shorten the draw distance. Became a fan of Akira Yamaoka's music.
