Xbox 360 DRM Rant

So, this morning I purchased Lair of the Shadow Broker and Kasumi's Stolen Memory DLC for Mass Effect 2 on my brother's account (cause he had the points).  When I inserted Mass Effect 2 into my brother's Xbox 360 (original), there were problems reading the disc.  The problem wasn't the disc itself (because it wouldn't read Kinect Adventures, Dance Central nor Halo: Reach).  After blowing into the disc tray, hoping to fix the problem (I assume was dust), it doesn't work.

Got annoyed, I disconnected my brother's HDD and connected it to my Xbox 360 (original).  I recovered my account to my brother's HDD but I can't play the DLC, because of the stupid DRM being tied to his Xbox 360.  WTF?!  DRM should be tied to the HDD and not the Xbox 360.  If my account is on the HDD, where the account purchased the DLC is originally, I should be able to play the DLC.

So, Microshit needs to manufacture better consoles and fix the DRM issue.

Ready to Break... Broken... Borked! (final update)

 This Changes Everything.
 This Changes Everything.
I was against this.  I didn't want to go back.  But Blizzard knows how to appeal and attract existing players back.  God damn.

In this post, I'm going to share what Add-ons I use.  I downloaded these add-ons from Curse.com, but I'm not going to link them for security reasons (if you're a WoW player, you know what I'm talking about).  Most of these Add-ons use very little memory to operate, which I like.  I mainly use Macros.

  • Bartender 4 - Allows you to customize your spell bar.
  • Bison - Resizes, moves and re-organises your buffs and debuffs.
  • Chinchilla - Custom mini-map.
  • ClassTimer - Tracking buffs and debuffs.
  • DBM (Deadly Boss Mods)  - Gives you visual notifications about boss spells and strategies.
  • Decursive - Easy way to de-curse!  Mainly used by Mages.
  • Move Anything - Move, hide and re-size anything on the default WoW interface.
  • Omen - Threat meter.
  • OmniCC - Just a nice looking countdown timer for your cooldowns.  Minor add-on.
  • OneBag3/OneBank3 - Combines all bag/bank slots into one giant, easy to manage one.
  • Quartz - Casting bars.  I use this for looking at the target's casting bar easier.
  • Recount - Records all sorts of data for outside and inside instances (damage done, DPS, healing, interrupts, etc.)
  • TipTac - Customised tooltip.

Games: Physical vs. Digital Copies

I had this thought a long time ago, but only recently revisited having downloaded Fable II due to Microsoft's fuck up.

So, some people say that "digital distribution is the future" but there are those (including myself) who tackle this issue with "I like to own the physical copy.  Something that I can hold and show".  Now, there has been copies of Blu-rays that have included DVD and/or digital copies, in the same box for the same price!  (such as: Iron Man 2 @ Amazon.co.uk).

Why can't games do this?  Games cost a LOT more than Blu-rays and DVD's combined, and this will satisfy both digital and physical gamers.  The thought of owning the physical copy and not needing to insert the game disc to play is awesome.

Sure, I could buy the PC version (if applicable) but I don't have a PC powerful enough to play games at their full potential (nor am I going to upgrade for games).  I'm NOT a PC gamer.

Then you have those who rent games and the used game market.  I don't rent games nor purchase used games.  i think this could be dealt with as the PC market.  In my experience, in the UK, when you try to return PC games (once opened), you cannot get a refund.  If you didn't already know, PC games require unique serial keys to install.  Obviously once it's used, the key is useless.  So the store wouldn't be able to sell the PC game again.  This could easily kill the used game market - unless game publishers release multiple versions of games (physical copy only, digital copy only, physical + digital copy).

Just a thought.

Reminder: Xbox LIVE 48hr Trials

If you are a Silver Xbox LIVE member and you use a 48 hour Gold trial, you CANNOT* use another trial unless you have upgraded to a Full Gold membership (at least 1 month).

Stupid Microsoft.

*When I say "cannot", I mean you will not have the abilities of Gold membership and you will have wasted the trial code.
