Armageddon turns out better than expected.

I have to admit, I don't have a single gripe with this game. I was initially turned off by the lukewarm critical response, but seeing it in Best Buy for $15, I had to finally give it a try. That price caveat may have to be taken into consideration, since I didn't pay full price. Comparing it to Red Faction Guerrilla, this is more of a guided and linear experience compared to that former games' open world format. In all honesty I preferred this format over the open world one. Although, that may have turned many people off to this game, I felt it pushed the game along. I also really enjoy the feel of the shooting and the variety of weapons, though I don't quite know how to quantify that. The grenade launcher that mostly harms organic things comes in quite useful when you want to blow up stuff, and not fall through the floor.

The story is mediocre, which is par for the course with most games these days, barring those grand exceptions. The destruction challenges reappear in the game menu as compared to coming across them in Guerrilla. I do wish there were more of them this time out. The online invasion mode is basically Gears of Wars' Horde mode. Nonetheless I enjoyed my outing with it. Although, different on many levels, I found this experience similar to Dead Space, and much like that game, I jumped right back in with game plus to continue my level up process. In the end, I can't say this game experience stands out for any great reason, I just really, really enjoyed it. Given you can pick this up for $20 or less new, I recommend giving it a try.

    Cheers,

Before I start talking about Red Faction Armageddon, it is important to note that I have not finished the previous Red Faction, I have completed the PS2 games but never got to finish Guerilla. I have played about half way through and got distracted by whatever game came out next. This however should not affect my review greatly, I’ve read about the story of Guerrilla and have caught up with it. Red Faction Armageddon is a third person shooter with a lot of mechanics involving destruction of...

When destruction somehow manages to be boring 0

If one shouldn't grocery shop while they're hungry, should one write a review immediately after finishing it? Then after awhile, once the entirety of the game has settled into your brain and you get the broad overview of everything it has to offer, maybe you'll see the game differently if it had a disappointing ending. But here's the thing with Red Faction: Armageddon....there's not much to fully redeem it once everything's settled. What was once promising about the previous game, Guerrilla, has...
