Darkside Chronicles is a fine fit for those enamored with the fiction of the Resident Evil series. It's competent enough as a guided shooter, even if it doesn't do much to improve on the hoary old format.

Darkside Chronicles is an upcoming on-rails shooter shooter for the Wii and a follow-up to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles.
Overview
Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles is an upcoming follow-up to the million-selling Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. As the name suggests, Darkside Chronicles doesn't follow the storyline of the Umbrella Corporation and will instead focus on other shadowy elements of the Resident Evil canon. Like its predecessor, the game is a Wii-exclusive on-rails shooter due for release in the latter half of 2009.
Storyline
Early trailers for The Darkside Chronicles indicate that at least part of the game will revisit the events of Resident Evil 2, which featured Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield struggling to escape a zombie-infested Racoon City. Sherry Birkin, another major Resident Evil 2 character, will also return. Just as The Umbrella Chronicles covered settings and events from different games in the series, other settings are also slated to appear in The Darkside Chronicles, though none aside from RE2 have been revealed as of yet. Additionally, Capcom's Masachika Kawata and Kentaro Noguchi have indicated that The Darkside Chronicles will feature a stronger horror element than was present in its predecessor.
As well as featuring the Resident Evil 2 story line, Darkside Chronicles will also retell the events of Code: Veronica. In the latest trailer, gameplay footage was shown taking place on Rockfort Island, along with playable characters Claire and Steve. No footage was shown of Chris, though one can assume he is there as well since he played a major role in the story.
In a trailer at TGS 2009, it was revealed that Leon and former partner Jack Krauser will have a mission in the game together as they visit a village in Africa that has been attacked by the T virus. It is thought that this village is the same as the one visited by Chris Redfield in Resident Evil 5.
Gameplay
Unlike in The Umbrella Chronicles, the player's partner character will be visible on screen in the single-player mode, which will figure into the gameplay. The game's replay will also be enhanced through a dynamic difficulty setting that will adjust to fit with the player's level of skill. Further tweaks will include a new motion-control evade move, and the camera angles will be much more action oriented.
