Me and a friend of mine started a debate about which is the better band, it started when she insisted Lizzy's version of Whiskey in the Jar was superior, and I disagreed,  and its been on for days now!! 

Metallica, for sure. Not a fan of their recent efforts, but their albums prior to 2000 are all classics in my mind.

I just listened to all 3 versions and Metallica is definitely my favorite.

Whiskey in the jar and breadfan cant compete with the originals!

Metallica is the better band as a whole, but Thin Lizzy's Whiskey in the Jar is better.

I generally take the position that no one can play a song better than the original artist, and this is definitely true here.  Whiskey in the Jar is a really chill song, which, for me anyway, dosen't sit well with Metallica's style of "kick down the door and hold on to your hats its time for some fucking metal."  Don't get me wrong, I love Metallica, they're one of my top 3 favorite bands, but Thin Lizzy wins this one.

I personally prefer Thin Lizzy.

I've got to go with Thin Lizzy, I'm not a Metallica fan.

By far, Metallica. Thin Lizzy can't hold a candle to Metallica's 80's albums, and probably some of their 90's ones for that matter......

Thin Lizzy. Incomparable, in my opinion.

I would say that Metallica is a better band. Some of their old stuff is just legendary. But if this were a voting situation I would vote for Thin Lizzie because they never got their panties in a bunch over that whole Napster thing.

Strange "poll"... Apart from that particularly song, does it even make any sense to compare these two bands?
