3D Platformers are games where movement, traversal and mainly jumping is the core of the gameplay. They are a tridimensional equivalent of 2D platformer one of the most popular video game genres in the third and fourth generation of video game consoles.
An often used plot device where the main character wakes up and has lost all their memories. The game usually centers around getting your memory back or uncovering the events that lead to your confusion.
Games that have animals (except humans) as the main character. The character must be playable.
Anthropomorphism is the concept of an object, concept or character that has human qualities or traits, such as speech, a level of intelligence similar or higher than a human's and self consciousness. "Anthro" means "of human" and related to the concept of humanity.
A protagonist who lacks some or all of the qualities traditionally seen as heroic.
Anytime an ally comes in to help you in any way. This mechanic is most common in fighting games.
Baditude is being "edgy" in an obviously forced or fake manner. Games with baditude often feature excessive swearing, gratuitous violence, and content meant to shock or offend.
A race of aliens who are evil.
A protagonist who is arrogant, cynical, and aggressive, but also intelligent and introspective. Named after the English Romanticist writer Lord Byron, who popularized such characters and was said to have fit this description himself.
Whether it's a hero's turn to the dark side or a villain becoming a hero, it's usually unexpected and will bring a whole new moral dimension to the story. Sometimes, they change they sides more than once.
Small, pet-like creatures able to be raised, raced and entered into battles by the player in various Sonic games. They also appeared in the Mario and Sonic series as audience members.
Video game controversy revolves mostly around the psychological effects that games with graphic violence or sexual content in them can have on players. Other sources of controversy can range from racism, sexism, politics, or religion.
One or more events from someone's past that negatively affected them. Plenty of video game characters have such pasts.
A Symbol that belongs to a character and an award for doing a great deed.
The accent of someone traditionally from England. Not to be confused with Welsh or Scottish, which are totally different despite being sometimes referred to as simply "British" accent.
Many video game villains oftentimes laugh in evil ways, be it a vicious cackle, a sneering chuckle, or a booming laugh. Common evil laughs often include "Bwa-ha-ha", "Mwa-ha-ha", or "Ho ho ho".
A dark version of a game's hero, featuring many of the same powers. Usually wears black. Male evil twins often have goatees.
Somewhat of a cross between Amnesia and Insanity, this is where a character replaces their own real original identity with a new false identity (i.e. a false reality/persona/memories), usually caused by either internal psychological trauma or external brainwashing.
A line that signals the start or the end of the race. Even though it is used for racing, it could mean any type of racing game.
A phenomenon by which one or more aspects of a character are exaggerated to the point of becoming a much bigger and more pronounced part of their identity than they previously were, even to the point of becoming the character's defining characteristic. Named after The Simpsons character Ned Flanders, who in-between the show's earliest and latest seasons had his religious background exaggerated to the point of becoming an intolerant Fundamentalist.
Flashbacks take a player into a flashback sequence. Often playable, but not always.
Sonic Riders
Games that involve characters racing on foot. This could be a portion of the game or could be the game's main focus.
Hedgehogs are small, nocturnal, insect eating mammals that can be found in Europe, Asia, or Africa. They aren't hogs and no blue colored ones live in the wild.
Codenamed "Canada's Game", Hockey is a game played by two opposing teams on a sheet of ice with the objective of scoring the most goals with a rubber puck. Players use wood or composite hockey sticks to put the puck in the net.
A lap is one circuit around a race track. This is featured in many, but not all racing games.
Games featuring characters that are physically much younger than their actual age would dictate. This does not count gods or similar deities that are considered ageless.
A weapon that has been forged and/or imbued with mystical energy, magic, or some other supernatural force. It is often required to solve a specific puzzle, or vanquish an impossible foe.
This concept is for games in which at least one of the main characters is male.
