Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 is a role-playing game developed and published by Atlus for the PlayStation 2. It is chronologically the fifth installment in the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series. Its critical and commercial success spawned a sizable media empire, including several spinoff titles.
Re-Endure the Persona 4 Endurance Run: Episode 1!
And you underestimate the amount of times I've done this before this particular instance! I just figured that since it was about the two year mark, it was a good time for an organized viewing. And then I promptly screwed that up by starting a day early! Terrible times.
@XII_Sniper:
A shocking number of people were in the middle of their own viewings already when I decided to give this a shot.
" Man, I'm already in the middle of a rewatch, episode 130 or so. I don't think I'll loop back and watch it again again. "Hah, I'm on 63; shame this thread didn't come sooner. Don't know what it is about the endurance run but it's good for just throwing on in the background.
I dunno what they're talking about, Jazz is great for pretty much every situation.
Episode 8! This one really makes me wish the principal of the school was around more. He seems like he could have been a gold mine.
Edit: Combat tomorrow! Brace yourselves.
Episode 9! It has a cutscene, so you know something cool is going to happen
I can't overstate how cool Charlie looks. Character designers did a great job on this game. If only they'd had the foresight to include copious references to They Live- luckily, Vinny and Jeff have us covered there.
I very much agree. The designs are fantastic. Now if there had only been more cut scenes with Chie...I can't overstate how cool Charlie looks. Character designers did a great job on this game.
Oh! And we finally get some good ole' fashioned gameplay! Who knew?
Episode 9 was pretty sweet. I actually really like the way Yosuke looks with the glasses on. He looked a little generic before, but the glasses make him a bit more sympathetic. Chie's voice actress showed her chops, Teddie remained super-amusing, and the reporter got to sound as overly-enthusiastic as a DBZ Fighting Tournament Host and as creepy as Mr. Morooka.
Episode 10! Charlie's making friends and moving up in the world.
Dojima and Adachi never stop being entertaining to watch, even if they're on a completely wrong track. Also, Vinny and Jeff's forgetfulness kicks up again, in the same episode as they mock the game for explaining everything repeatedly. Love it!
@Little_Socrates:
It's amazing what the glasses do for the characters. After a while it starts being weird to see the gang not wearing them. Also, man, you're in for a treat tomorrow. I envy your status as someone who doesn't know what's coming next.
@Gnorbooth:
In an ideal world, there would have been cut scenes for all the level 10 social links. Maybe when they make a Persona 4 FES/Portable like they should.
@Gnorbooth:A Persona 4 FES would be awesome, cause really, any more excuses to play through Persona is always great. Just not sure what it would accomplish as P4 feels like a real complete game, at least to me. But a portable P4 would be BADASS TO THE MAX. And man oh man do I want social link cutscenes!!!!!
In an ideal world, there would have been cut scenes for all the level 10 social links. Maybe when they make a Persona 4 FES/Portable like they should. "
Hopefully Persona 5 brings us the ideal world of having social link decisions actually apply to the game and into the storyline. That is what I am waiting for. And whenever Atlus gets around to pulling off that monumental task, it will be the greatest game ever!
Episode 11! The Midnight Channel finally starts to show it's stuff.
Jeff and Vinny are also introduced to the concept of fusing... That'll go well for them in the future. Still, at least Charlie has some awesome help on the quest- his spirit guides cruise through space in a damn limo! Find out tomorrow what happens now that the game has officially started.
" I'll admit it: fusing was one of my favorite parts of the game. "I loved fusing back when I played through. I found almost nothing more fun than stacking resistances over the inherent weaknesses of my favorite Persona. Dis was a monster less than halfway through the game.
Oh sheesh, fusing.
I remember times when I would spend hours fusing one dude in Persona 3. Had to get those skills just right. Once that started happening on a regular basis, fusing became the bane of my existence (but at least enemies didn't stand a chance against me). At least in P3. They must have done something a little different in P4. Didn't seem to eat up as much time. Yay for progress!
Overall I think the fusing mechanic is pretty cool. But the fact that you cannot directly choose the skills you want is bogus and there are myriad weird little deficiencies in the menus that make the entire system a pain.
That being said, fusing episodes of the ER were often my favorite, I really enjoyed seeing all their reactions to the crazy and weird monsters in the game.
The reaction to fusing seems massive here. I'm gonna watch Episode 12 now, as I'm gonna be busy most of tomorrow.
Not really. If anthing it took slightly more time in P3 because you couldn't see the results of fusions that used 4 or more Personae, I guess. But that's really it. They're basically the same.. They must have done something a little different in P4. Didn't seem to eat up as much time. Yay for progress! "
The reason it seemed to take more time in the P4 ER is because Jeff and vinny never bothered to learn it.
wow! thats so funny. The past 3 weeks I had just watched all of the Endurance run for the first time. Its funny to know there are people watching the almost 100 hour play through a gain.
Episode 12! You give Jeff and Vinny direct control one time and they make a 40 minute video.
And they did in fact make contacts in They Live. Also, Shadows! Fighting! Inverting Camera Controls! The Endurance Run is officially on.
This is pretty awesome since I just started watching the Persona 4 one a bit ago since I missed the initial run, but I really can't help myself but keep watching several eps a day. And, well the fact that that I've already hit ep 94 by the time I saw this, but this is still a great idea to recreate the awesomeness of the the effort they put into the endurance run.
Do this for the Deadly Premonition one in a bit and I'm in.
Episode 13! Jeff and Vinny are set loose upon the unsuspecting populace of Yasogami High and bond with a lifelong companion. They also social link with Chie.
The inability to read the weather forecasts is always great and won't nearly doom the guys at all.
Mmmmmmm, social linking with Chie. Indeed. Their inability to read the weather made for some fantastic drama for these early episodes. OH YOU GUYS ARE SILLY!!!!" Episode 13! Jeff and Vinny are set loose upon the unsuspecting populace of Yasogami High and bond with a lifelong companion. They also social link with Chie.
The inability to read the weather forecasts is always great and won't nearly doom the guys at all. "
Let's not forget the importance of FUNKY STUDENT!!!!! Can't wait till a certain four legged creature gets invited to this party. Always makes for a solid laugh. Oh Endurance Run. I love you.
14th episode! Vinny and Jeff are so looking forward to Andra. That won't come back to haunt them.
I understand that the fusing can be confusing, but the degree to which Vinny and Jeff fail to recognize anything at all on the fusion screen amazes me. They were clearly the perfect choice for this Endurance Run.
A shorter episode today! That's not going to last. I would have done a double episode, but this cliffhanger is too good to pass up.
That dream is all the proof I ever needed that this game was made for Vinny and Jeff to play through it.
Now that was fucking amazing as an episode. XD
Looking forward to the stunning conclusion of "I loooooove them balls!"
Lots of dungeon crawling and new enemies in this one, as Charlie and company proceed to work over most of these first floors with little trouble. I guess that balances out what's going to happen to them at the end of floor 5...
First introduction to both the Positive King and the Bambino enemies, which will prove to be a nightmare for the Endurance run in the future. Also, those bambinos look F'd up, man.
