Only 4 people. Dave Snider, Vinny Caravella, no Patrick. This is the best podcast in months.

Skyrim is such great discussion fodder. Like Dave noted, everyone's experience seems to be at least a little bit different, and it's fun seeing everyone's preferences bleed into different playstyles (Dave's "Thief 4" build, Vinny modding away item weight, and so on).

What in the world is Vinny talking about with Zelda? Going back and fighting a dude three times? Does he mean the 1 minute Imprisoned fights? I mean once you "get" them, they are easy and quick. That's the only thing that really is repetitive. Like, yes you go back to the desert three times, but each time it is entirely different gameplay and the environment you actually play in is very different.

As someone who once tried to piece the "Zelda timeline" together and care about the "story" between the game looking at it now it's fucking retarded. In my opinion the best way to enjoy Zelda is not trying to connect those ridiculous dots. They are singular experiences for me now.

Agreed. That game changes its gameplay up many times, and takes old environments and add new gameplay them.

On a side note, there is a lot of bad Star Wars fiction, but those two examples he pulled out were written in the early 90s for the Young Reader line...so yea that is going to be bad of course it is. Then again there is plenty of good fiction out there. Zahn's Heir to the Empire Trilogy, X-Wing Series, The Jedi Academy Trilogy...there are plenty of good fiction in the universe.

I love how with every podcast, Vinny keeps sounding like he thinks he's in the Twlight Zone, with everyone loving Skyrim and him not liking it and being completely mystified that he's the only one that doesn't like it.

To what Vinny's complaining about, I'd recommend mixing up what's in your left hand. I'd do either a Conjure Flame Atronach or a Stoneflesh, then switch to a shield or dual wield two one-handed weapons. I have two one handed weapons gotten from Deadric Quests so I just like having them around. Looking at em. Plus this way you'd be uping your Conjuration and Alteration even though you're not a mage.

FYI Brad, I'm not exactly up on my Star Wars lore anymore, but from '91 through about '03 I was thoroughly immersed in it, enough so that I feel the need to address that Triclops stuff.

You should know that those were books intended for small children, and were written before Lucasfilm made the decision to tie all the novels and comics together into a single, cohesive "Expanded Universe". At the time, the Triclops / Glove-of-Vader stuff wasn't supposed to take place in the same universe as, say, the Zahn trilogy, or the 70's / 80's Marvel Star Wars Comics, or the Star Wars video games for that matter. All of these things existed in their own little universes without any connection to one another.

Then in the mid-90's, when Lucasfilm decided to make an effort to tie all off the spin-off fiction into a single universe, they had to cram a lot of pre-existing things together that didn't really fit. Triclops is one of the most glaring examples (I seem to recall there being a giant talking rabbit in the Marvel comics, but that's before my time), but a lot of that stuff has basically been retconned to oblivion. So don't judge the Expanded Universe too harshly based on a series of children's books that were written before the concept of "Expanded Universe" even existed.

Now, if you want to judge the Expanded Universe for oh, say... this... or this... or even this... I wouldn't blame you.

FYI Brad, I'm not exactly up on my Bojangles menu anymore, but from '91 through about '03 I was thoroughly immersed in it, enough so that I feel the need to address that Waffle House comment.

You should know that those restaurants were intended for only the finest chicken and biscuits, and were created before Bojangles made the decision to tie all the breading recipes and spices together into a single, cohesive "Southern Fillet". At the time, the Waffle House / House of Waffle stuff wasn't supposed to take place in the same universe as, say, a Bojangles. All of these things existed in their own little universes without any connection to one another.

Then in the mid-90's, when Bojangles decided to make an effort to tie all off the spin-off recipes and spices into a single sandwich, they had to cram a lot of pre-existing ingredients together that didn't really fit. Grilled Chicken Fillet Sandwich with Bo'Rounds is one of the most glaring examples (I seem to recall there being a giant talking rabbit you could also order, but that's before my time), but a lot of that stuff has basically been recooked to oblivion. So don't judge theBojangles too harshly based on a series of Waffle Houses chains that were destroyed before the concept of "Bojangles" even existed.

I don't think people dislike Patrick as much as the fact that he was shoved in the faces of the community right off the bat.

I've come around on Patrick greatly after about six months. He is definitely great for the reporting and news portions of the site, but I just don't like his presence on these podcasts nearly as much as the original four. That being said, he's definitely a good presence to have with a more youthful approach. As long as he acts like he doesn't know more than the other guys, then he's good with me.

Yeah me too although I give Vinny props for finishing it, I gave up at the Sandship because I was miserable the whole time. I would be more pissed if I actually bought it, I borrowed it from a friend, but I just found it dull in all aspects which is weird because I played through Ocarina again on 3DS and had fun.

Man, you guys have got to find a way to get Dave and Drew in on the bombcast more often. Even though I know they're largely the guys responsible for the backend of the site, I personally find them integral faces of GB and love them. Would like to see/hear more from them.

Liking this podcast, but I actively wanted to kick both Brad and Dave in the nuts for their comments on Skyrim and GOTY (specifically "I heard it gives an experience that can be found nowhere else." and "You guys are idiots if you don't give it to that game," respectively.) Fuck you, dudes, Saints Row is great and Brad, don't be a dick. I don't care if consensus is "Skyrim is great" even on this site or if it wins, just don't be assholes about it.

Otherwise, I love both of these guys for the rest of the show, so don't take this as hardcore bashing. It just actively made me angry during an otherwise pleasant podcast. And I was playing Monkey Island at the time, so that shouldn't have been easy to do.

I was surprised when I first heard about people trying to fit all the games into one story. I always implicitly assumed that each game was a standalone experience. For me, there were just too many parallels between each game for it to not be incredibly silly to believe that they could somehow all happen in the same universe.

I see where Vinny's coming from too. I gave up after the 3rd dungeon.

The thing about Vinny is that he's so mellow all the time, so when he goes off on a game like that, you know it really messed with him.

I don't get the interest in the timeline at all. I mean, I'm not gonna rain on anyone's parade if that's their thing, but it's always been clear to me that each Zelda story is a relatively thin premise whose main purpose is to propel you through various dungeons. It's why the games are largely based around the collection of magical objects: something needs to be at the bottom of the dungeon.

I have Dish, and I am looking into, at least, some cord shaving. Currently, my bill is $117, which I split with my roommate, and I am looking to cut about 50 bucks off that bill, and go from there. I am almost tempted to cut the cord completely, but bandwidth caps have me concerned. Plus, I do not think my roommate would go for it.

As for Hulu, I agree. When you compare it to cable/satellite, and the amount of content you get for only 8 bucks, watching adds is a small price to pay. Personally, I just hit the mute button, and play with my Kindle Fire for a bit.

I have, however, manage to cut the cord with the phone, which I also got through Comcast, a couple a months ago, by using a Obi + Google Voice solution, and it has worked out great. It raise my Internet bill by 10 bucks, but it has eliminated 45 bucks that was paid for the phone, plus 7 bucks for phone modem rental. Not to mention, all the money that was paid to call 411, and BS like the service protection plan.

As for Internet, I have always owned my own modem. Rental fee is a scam.

Oh, and Roku is awesome. Roku LT was the best 50 bucks I've ever spent. Probably my favorite purchase last year, and I already purchased a Roku the year before.

The one series that Brad is referring to for extended star wars novels is written for children and I agree is stupid, but there are better fan fiction; the ones that Brad talks about are easily the worst.
