I think Jeff and Dan will get their wishes granted regarding some of the character developments in the next few batches. I am eagerly looking forward to the next few podcasts to see if their opinions of this arc change at all.

We don't know for sure that other universe's deities defend them from things like Freiza or Cell. We know for a fact that Universe 6 has a Frost going around terrorizing the universe while pretending to be a liberator in order to profit from his own destruction, that there is a need for a squad of (hideously underpowered) Saiyans to go around righting wrongs, and that they have been terrorized by a deadly assassin that has been around for thousands of years (Hit is basically like Uber Cell if Cell decided to just make money instead of blowing shit up). We see nothing at all of what's going on recently or historically in other universes. The only universe that is definitely protected from threats like Cell and Freiza by their deities is the universe that Jiren comes from because we see that their god of destruction has trained a squad of fighters to defend the universe.

The tic tac toe sounds they make in japanese makes it sound like they keep repeating ' i do the show!' to eachother.

Yakon's two handlers that get eaten by him look even more like a battletoad than Yakon does.

I guess Kaioshin is the supreme kai, but somehow the saiyan race has been able to not pop up on his radar. I guess King Kai is not really bragging about them openly, given that South Kai was also surprised by Goku's strength. I guess when you're the Kai of everything, you just don't know about a lot of local stuff.

I rate this episode 2 out of 7 dragonballs!

mr. satan is the greatest fighter in the history of the dragon ball universe (if you take ticket sales into consideration)

Remember that Freetza blew them up before they became too much of upstarts, Bardock was the strongest of them all and he couldn't even match Freetza's first form for raw power. It's unlikely the deity looking over all the cosmos would blip a single planet of highly competent warriors getting dead before any of them even went Super Saiyan. Especially since it was retconned to all be part of the EVEN HIGHER ranked god's plan.

Yeah, that's the point where it breaks down for me. The appeal isn't in "anything with overly dramatic, ham plot points, larger than life characters and behavior meant to facilitate fights". It's the point where someone does high-flying martial arts or shoot lasers out their mouths rather than run around in a forest or whatever. Just 'cause something shares dramatic tropes don't make them 1-to-1. One is action-oriented theater and one's animation. You might like both. You might not.

So at this point, in the manga/anime Dabura is just literally from Hell, right? Under the clouds and Snake Road? I know Xenoverse had some stuff about him and his sister or something, but that's a thirty years later retcon in a game and I dunno how much to read into where Shin says he's from considering translations. It's not like they translated Kami to God.

Sometimes I get frustrated at Dan ("China? You mean the wrestler?") but then I remember that he's basically Andy Dwyer, and that's fine.

@alpha_bit: I think they'd also gain some respect for chi chi. But don't worry I think they'll for sure watch the original dragon ball after this.

Nah, he's always been from the Demon Realm, which is a completely separate thing. Hell is for dead people, Demon Realm is for Demons. Geekdom101 did a good video that goes over everything we know about it:

The stuff in the games like Xenoverse just expands on Demon Realm stuff, it didn't introduce it. Also as far as I know they don't "retcon" newer lore into Kai in any way so you don't need to worry about that. Aside from some holdovers from the original dub (like using "Kami" and "Guardian of the Earth" instead of just "God" etc.) the Kai dub has a pretty damn accurate translation. It's kind of the whole point of that dub.

TL;DR - Kai dub is the most accurate dub, Demon Real and Hell are separate things.

vegeta was always short, it's just that he was hanging out mostly with krillin and gohan during the namek arc that it wasn't noticeable, freeza was also a shorty

Jeff and Dan need to get way into DDT wrestling and start making comparisons to that.

I started watching wrestling because of Giantbomb and I'll tell you, learning about it has paid dividends over the years. It *is* very anime. You don't get lasers shooting out of mouths but you do get undead lightning wizards, a voodoo shaman, demons, monsters, and everybody has special moves and supers. If you can embrace the dumb you can get into it. Anyway from where I'm standing I want more wrestling on this anime podcast because this is something they're doing for fun and I want them to enjoy themselves and not stress out over producing 'accessible' content.

No one wants to mention how Jeff is going to power-up as a Saiyan through erotic asphyxiation, eh? That was the best part of this episode.

Also if you keep complaining about the wrastlin' they are just going to bring it up more.
