@vinny: The street fights aren't getting any tougher because the story hasn't moved on much.

Edit: @danryckert: The costumes only work in Premium Adventure, which is a post-story unlock (lets you continue substories etc. after completing the game).

Edit: You don't really need to preemptively drop items in the Item Box - if you inventory is full and pick up a new item, you can send something to the Box at that point.

Edit: Bob U. isn't pre-order stuff - the unlocks were patched into the game post-release (1 set per week IIRC).

What are you Yakuzzing me of?

Every week I have played through more of this game (I'm now up to just starting Majima's business) and I'm always more excited than ever for what lies ahead in this series.

@y2ken: I just get there the other night...I can see my next ten hours of gameplay trying to make the best cabaret club I can. This game is fantastic.

Hah, I think I spent 10-15 minutes try to get that damn Bunchan.

Here is a picture of me, standing exactly where the statue was standing. The wall texture is exactly the same, the light on the wall is exactly the same, the only difference is the restaurant is a burger place and not a pizza place. Incredible detail.

Hey Alex sell the Platinum Plate at the pawn shops, you have it in both Majima and Kiryu's inventory, it was part of the crazy clown inventory. You have stashed it stashed in the phone booth inventory, seriously take the time.

A bit disappointed with the lack of story progress. Been playing the game alongside you guys, and looks like I'll have to wait until next episode to continue. As for the things you wondered about in this one:

In my experience the generic thugs remain the same throughout the Yakuza games, unless there's a story reason for tougher/better armed guys to flood the street.

There typically aren't any heat actions with guns (except for ones for disarming armed enemies). You can reload them at the weapons merchant (Dragon & Tiger).

You sell stuff at Ebisu Pawn. You passed by it this episode looking for Don Quijote. You can get a full list of all the stores and where they are by pressing Triangle on the map.

Ps. You did not buy a mandarin orange in this episode. You might want to try that in the next one. Just a thought.

Just a heads up on the hooligans in the street since it seemed like you were trying to be careful not to trigger some fights that wouldn't be triggered anyway. If it's only one guy walking, he'll only trigger into a fight if you run into him. It's only when it's a group of three guys that they'll chase you down when you're in their line of sight.

Great episode!Just wish it was longer or more then once a week,it's my fav piece of content on the site at the moment.

If they stick to the main story for the majority of next episode,they might very well encounter one of my favorite stylistic touches this series does for introducing major boss fights, (its such a small thing, but it does get you hyped for the upcoming fight)

We've all paid the dark price at some point in our lives.

It's so weird to actually look forward to Mondays, thanks to this series. This is my favorite thing on the site right now, so thank you again for doing it.

Dan's George Brett callback during the statue side story slayed me. Thank you for that.

You should try pressing the "Options" button right after you beat the last guy in when it goes inverted colors, it says it shows bonus details and I'm curious what that is.

@alex@vinny@danryckert The slime shotgun is a GREAT weapon against Mr. Shakedown. Go back to the Dragon & Tiger and stock up on slime shotguns then just DESTROY Mr. Shakedown super quickly. Lastly, just because it's a shotgun doesn't mean you have to be up close, you can stay at a distance!

As much as I love this series, the lack of story progression is bumming me out a little. The side-quests are a ton of fun, but having the gang do nothing but 'em weeks in a row is a bit much for me personally. 'Sides, I'm kinda' worried they'll run out of 'em as they're really very early on in the actual game.

Seems they're having fun, though, so, hey.. That's what matters. I'll just have to be a wee bit patient. And that ending, hah. How the hell did I forget about that?

Some of the side quest stuff for Majima in this section is really boring, like the errand boy. Was hurrying my way through some of these.

I really like the statue guy and "dark price" though.

Their doing fine, they cleared up a lot of side stuff on Osaka at this point, so it not like they have to worry because they can cruise through the rest of "this bit" of Osaka. I think their pace so far has been fine.

I'm not sure they will finish the whole game this way, but so what? This content isn't about review or preview; it about having fun with game they is perfect for having other people watch and pitch in ideas. As long as they have fun and people are watching - it's fine.

For folks worrying about story progress, don't worry, we'll get back to it.

The rule we've been abiding by thus far is if we encounter a side story, we do it. That will occasionally result in stretches where we do a lot of side stuff in a row. We don't want to miss stuff or forget about it in the breaks between episodes, so it's easier to just do it when we see it. Next week we'll make sure to focus our efforts on the main story again.

Seriously though, when are they going to actually play this game?

Geez these comments. Let them have fun their way. If all you want is to see the main story play out, I'm sure YouTube is crawling with boring YouTubers doing exactly that. (Or, hell, play the game.)

@alex@vinny@danryckert you found the healing items! i can't remember if don quijote ever stocks the top tier of those things but hopefully you'll stumble into the actual drug stores eventually. mr libido sometimes hangs outside the one in sotenbori and kamurocho's drug store is right next to the shrine.

also it's proooobably worth pointing out that most of the substories are frontloaded for both characters. more become available in every chapter but the majority are there right at the start and you've burned through a decent chunk of majima's already

Seeing how expertly framed and stylised the cutscenes are in this game makes me even more depressed about Andromeda

Knowing that Yakuza is about story and absurd side missions, it pleases me so much that Vinny is genuinely interested in the characters. I just knew he would enjoy the story.

With paint, what we perceive as an absence of color in order to make white paint, is actually the same property of physics that monitors use to create white pixels. Paints use pigments, and pigments work by absorbing every color except its color. So blue pigments absorb red, and yellow light and reflect blue back to our retinas.

So technically that pigment is acting like a blue pixel and emitting blue light, except the way it makes blue light hit your eyes is through reflection of blue light from whatever source of light you have. Pixels produce lights with diodes, pigments reflect light. So technically what makes white paint is also the same as what makes white pixels. Instead of reflecting one wavelength of light, it reflects all wavelengths, as a pixel would produce all wavelengths to emit white light.

We simply perceive it as an absence of light because we think more about the absorption of other wavelengths rather than focusing on the light that is reflected and reaching our retinas. Humans are stupid strange that way. This much too common misconception is a symptom of bigger issues that explains why the world is in the state its in currently. Twisting facts to fit our skewed perception of the world.
