Drew needs to play that firefighter game for the site. This needs to happen.

Also I really enjoyed Castlevania: Lament of Innocence as a Devil May Cry-lite with minor action-rpg elements.

Phantasy Star Online had the same preset auto-translate phrases that FFXI had. Not just the symbol chat.

@drewbert The Rifle you spotted during the Lifeline trailer and described as "Aliens like" was probably based on one of the OICW prototypes.

No Caption Provided

OICW was a 90s military contract to combine a standard assault rifle with an integrated 20mm Grenade Launcher and scope. Van Dame was using a fake XM29 in the Universal Solider sequel as well as turning up in Far Cry/Tom Clancy/Delta Force games.

Been too long since the last Demo Derby!

Lifeline always makes me think of the "Bark like a dog" thing from X-Play.

Also Jason Ray, the producer who talks about Lifeline, totally sounds like Dave Snider to me

Honestly no one as done an MMO on a console as well as Square Enix with FFXI and FFXIV, the fact that its rather pleasant to play with a controller is a impressive thing in itself.

Anytime your PS2 headset infomercial includes the phrase "from an anthropological standpoint," you know someone goofed.

FFXI is still my favorite game of all time. Too bad what it became after the Abyssea mini xpacs came out.... man it is a mess now [Not saying it didn't always have some problems but man Abyssea..... just gutted the game].

But seriously about every few months I look and see if there will ever be another MMO even close to the style of that game, normally with dashed hopes :(

There is one that looks like it has potential but not out for a fair bit.

Oh boy oh boy memories of FFXI come flooding back. All of that content looked WAY more accessible than the game was, though. I didn't see that magic user standing in Dunes shouting for a lv15 party invite for an hour.

La Pucelle Tactics is a game I put an absurd amount of time into and also isn't a Giant Bomb type of game at all, so probably for the best it was just a trailer. But now my desires for a La Pucelle Tactics sequel have been renewed.

That aside, would be totally down for watching Drew play more of that firefighting game if the actual gameplay didn't seem so tedious.

There was a PSP port or remake of La Pucelle Tactics. I remember being pretty excited for it but I don't know if it actually came out in North America or Europe? I did play the PS2 original for a bit, it's probably the only Tactical JRPG I've even tried to get into.

And that Konami firefighting game just reminds me how many weird and now mostly forgotten PS2 games that not only Konami but other Japanese developers like Capcom and Namco put out at that time.

@jeffleclerc: I have no idea who it is but all I can hear while listening to that narrator is the narrator from Idiocracy (99.9% sure it's not the same person) and for whatever reason it makes it that much funnier to me.

Edit: I should probably add I am referring to the Final Fantasy portion, realized after there is probably more than one narrator in this video

Actually, the chat system in FFXI was nothing like the symbols chat in PSO. I should know, I played PSO for well over 100 hours and FFXI over 500. It was pretty ingenious. All items, skills, monsters, locations and many common phrases could be auto-completed and -translated. I spent a lot of time playing with players from Japan and all over the world and wether trading, grouping up for grind sessions or raids it all worked really well.

In PSO you'd just run around and do whatever anyway, communication wasn't much of a factor as long as everyone knew what they were doing.

Also, FFXI had the best soundtrack ever. The only videogame soundtrack I ever bought. It's like 6 CDs in this beautiful box full of Amano artwork and they even included some piano sheets. Listen to it to this day whenever I'm reading or writing.

I'd never play that stupid Quidditch game because it didn't enforce the rules against stooging. I mean come on, every Quidditch fan knows having 3 people in the scoring area isn't allowed. EA letting us down again.

I do appreciate the cool moves though. I never would have thought to press the triangle button 3 times when there are 3 triangles on the screen. Now I know!
