Definitely not the best issue of PlayStation Underground to feature, but still super nostalgic for me.

Also, at the beginning, Drew says "reminds me of MST3K" referring to the tube animation thing. Well, you guys really need to find Issue 2.1...

Clicked around and saw some SSX. Played Tricky a year ago and I can confirm those games are still super fun. 3 is one of the best PS2 games I own, right up there with Tony Hawk 3.

Whose PS3 is that? It had data for The Simpsons Arcade Game rerelease, Hot Shots Golf, and Final Fantasy VIII, of all things. What a weird combination...

I already posted above, but I'm very disappointed that Drew and Dan skipped the best part of these demo discs--Cool Moves! It was mind-blowing in that era to see someone else play a section for you and tell you how to handle it.

Also, my mind was blown when I saw Saul Villegas, someone I was shocked to find I completely remember from these discs! What a blast from the past.

i wish jeff was in on these because i like hearing his facts and stories about past video game eras.

Artificial mind and movement are now Behavior studio and still mostly just develop shitty licensed games and are now working on the ps3/xbox360 port of shadow of mordor...or i guess they are just done with that.

They also made WET and that game was kinda fun.

EDIT2: I LOVE ARMORED CORE ! the indepth customisation is so awesome and the ridiculously full HUDs in those early ps2 ones are fucking awesome looking haha I own almost all of them but never played them a ton though..

Playstation 2 was such a good console, goddamn

Twisted Metal Black actually WAS censored, but only in Europe.

As much as I can remember they removed the plane destruction (it is already crashed in the PAL version), any flaming bodies from car wreckage and also EVERY SINGLE CUTSCENE FROM THE GAME.

There is an intro video, I think one when Minion shows up and just a generic ending scene. It was a gigantic mess and I've not quite gotten over it.

@drewbert while The French Connection is an amazing movie and it was awesome to hear you reference it, it was totally filmed and took place in New York City, not Chicago. There are elevated trains in NYC too.

Also, the Driver series was the first where if you took a turn too sharp, your hubcaps would fly off and roll away. At the time, I found this MIND BLOWING. On top of that, being able to get out of the car and run around in 3D was so impressive. Especially considering this was before GTA3 and on PS1.

The cheat videos reminded me of back when G4 had an entire show dedicated to just showing cheat codes for 30 minutes. I never got who would watch that, were people waiting for the episodes with their games in them to come on and then hurriedly scribbling down cheat codes?

@danryckert I had that Star Wars "car combat" game, but I had the Dreamcast version. It wasn't terrible. Well, the Dreamcast version wasn't terrible, by the standards of the day. It also had audio.

You could play as Boba Fett in it, but instead of driving a vehicle, he just flies around with his jetpack.

Please build that hover craft.

"Ace Ventura - When nature calls" totally holds up

My most fond demo discs were the Pizza Hut MGS one and the one that came with the PS1, orange disc that had Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi, Tomb Raider 2, Tekken 2 (?), and more.

Great stuff! I actually remember playing Mort the Chicken and fucking hating it.

Shooting down the plane in Twisted Metal Black was removed from the European version of the game (release: December 2001). I think it was simply too late to remove it from the US release.

I've played alot of Star Wars Demolition in my day so watching Drew play that way was truly painful

This is a wonderful blast of 13+ years ago gaming nostalgia and more than worth the money I pay for premium, especially with all the stories and anecdotes of Dan. Going to be fascinating to hear those who got started with the last generation or with this one talk about their experiences in 15-20 years.

I can assure you Canadians have seen How The Grinch Stole Christmas cartoon just as much as Americans.

if I remember correctly, that tiny PS1 was officially named PS One (Take that, Microsoft). So that's why the first Playstation is often referred to as PSX instead of PS1.

The Stars Wars car combat game was basically a re-skin for Vigilante 8, made by the same people.
