I used to play this as lot a kid (as well as the WCW vs NWO games). I remember getting a kick out of throwing up middle fingers as Steve Austin.

edit: also, I sort of have an itch for WWE 2K14 at $30 on PSN. I haven't played a WWF game since...Smackdown 2003? I get the impression it'd be utterly worth it to someone like me, but someone give me a thumbs up.

I also haven't watched wrestling since around that time but still listen to the power bombcast, certain episodes of Cheap Heat and read The Masked Man.

Damnit Alex, I liked you until you said D-Lo Brown was bad, he was probably the best underrated wrestler of that era.

Man this takes me back to when I cared at all about wrestling.

I fell out of loving wresting at the end of the 80s, but I loved this game!

That is a nice looking referee sprite. Pity the rest of the game looks like an awkward late 90s polygonal mess.

The best AKI wrestling game ever is obviously Def Jam FFNY. No contest.

@alex, don't forget that your best bet is to press the button that does an irish whip (I think it's the C-down button?) when near the ropes to throw someone out of the ring. If you can't do that, irish whipping someone into the ropes and then hitting them with a strong attack is still your best bet.

One last tip - don't forget that when you're getting up from being knocked down, you can hold onto the R button to stay crouched (so can't be hit or grappled), then press B or A to strike/grapple from the crouch. Great against those that hover over top of you when knocked down!

What I remember Test for was his huge nipples.

How could you forget Test???? He was a big part of what was arguably the single most impactful storyline of that era. He was supposed to marry Stephanie, but Triple H kidnapped and wed her in a drive-thru chapel. That turned into an actual relationship between Trips and Steph, and here we are today.

Maybe I just have different expectations for something that calls itself "Encyclopedia", but how about some damn research? Spend some prep time re-acclimating to the games and remembering the controls so you don't get beaten by Mideon.

I love the AKI games (I even own VPW 64 and VPW 2), but if I had never played them, seeing this would scare me off.

I like most of the wrestlers that Alex doesn't like.
