Take a shot whenever Ryan asks Brono a question and makes him shake his head.

I like how they're playing an old game because old games are less linear than modern games. Persona 4 and Deadly Premonition both had clear objectives on what to do and where to go next, but old-school RPG's were kinda cryptic. You had to get clues from NPC's and explore on your own. I'm loving this ER because the exploration factor is giving this ER a new wrinkle.

To be fair, DP and P4 had their exploration points outside of the main quest dungeon stuff. I wouldn't call either of those games linear.

@paulunga: Not like dragon warrior 1 grind, but a need to actually kill some monsters for xp, gold, tec points, something every now and then...and that ryan finally hit the shop and didn't buy anything is killing me lol. He doesn't know where some secret pieces of equipment are, or tabs, or what bosses are going to do so I don't know if just running through the story full speed will work, but I guess we'll find out. I already thought yakra would be harder for him but it was fine though he never saw that slurp would heal lol.

that last 15 minutes of them looking for that portal is excruciating, just yelling when they pass it over and over, but its still great

I'm not surprised that you guys got confused but I am relieved that you made the progress that you did. Truly the more rudimentary game design elements are going to prove the biggest challenge in this endurance run. Also Patrick is not entirely wrong to think that those gargoyles look like dancing goat men.

That statement's kinda loaded. Super Mario Bros. was very linear. Skyrim is not. Chrono Trigger is about as linear as Skyward Sword. Well, at least before New Game+, which is probably still one of the best implementations of New Game+ to date.

Man, I don't wanna be a nay sayer because I love me some Endurance Run, but I think it's gonna be really hard for me not to start yelling at ths screen when Ryan and Patrick are missing something I remember!

Agreed, and I remember pretty much all of the game so I will be yelling a lot. Just wait until the unrestricted time jumping comes around, that will be interesting to watch. Also I noticed that they made EVERY mistake at the fair that is brought up in the court scene.

I actually picked back up the DS version last night, I was about 10 hours in and had to wander around for a while before finding the story trigger. I was at a point where I had access to most of the time periods so figuring out where I had to be in which time period to progress the story was a little daunting.

I'll be honest: the lack of attention to details is gonna bring some fun moments in the ER, such as the fate for a certain event in the next part (clue: What happened in the Fair, didn't stay there...) or Denadoro Mountain as a whole...

Having never played any iteration of this game, I'm so torn between watching these and actually going and playing the damn thing...

Another forty minutes can't hurt.

I feel you, a couple of hours of the Persona 4 endurance run convinced me to get a copy and play along with Jeff and Vinny. I think I prefer when they play good games.

I've played this game like 10 times and I'm still seeing stuff I didn't pick up on before. Like the court system that convicts Crono in 1000 exists because he saved Leene from getting kidnapped in 600.

I guess the point of this is that they don't know what's going on or what they're supposed to do, but it's super frustrating to watch some parts.

@mrangryface: I love this notion that the comments section or the fan community at large is actually one hive mind with one opinion as opposed to hundreds and thousands of people with their own differing views.

Man anyone saying this was hard to watch because of not knowing where to go really should watch some of the other ER videos with nothing happening at all for 40 minutes.

I remember having to redo that forest a few times more than was strictly necessary back when I first played Chrono Trigger. This is the down side of watching someone's first experience with a game. Just skip ahead!

Also... practitioning. Love it.

Oh man, so the trial should happen tomorrow. This is going to be great. I can't wait to see if they break out or wait the time limit, or even if they explore the dungeon at all, because you don't need to if you wait the time. Also will they save the guillotined shop owner? Only time will tell.

I just don't get how Ryan can read pretty much every pointless bit of NPC trash dialogue in detail but skip through the important, story-progressing dialogue scenes without reading.

I love how the comments for the last episode were all about how they shouldn't be playing this game for the ER because Pattrick had already played it, and there were no surprises or discoveries, and the comments for this episode are all about how they have no idea what they are doing and that they suck at games.

Man, I think Giant Bomb might be the largest community of pro gamers on the internet. Never before have I seen so many people who never die or get lost in video games before.

I totally didn't see that canyon thing during the cutscene either because I wasn't really paying attention. So, I guess I'm a dumb retard like Ryan and Patrick.

There's a difference between not knowing the specific mechanics of a game and learning intuitively vs. Not knowing simple RPG tropes of the genre like READING THE STORY DIALOGUE.

The commentary with Ryan and Patrick are more bordering on the 'technical' side of things, with saying things about the music and how this game still holds up. I was hoping for a bit more crazy or zany talk from them related to the storyline or dialogue, which is pretty absurd.

So... did they artificially insert the black-and-white background? It reminds me a lot of how XBLA will insert borders to some old games, which is why I ask.

Yeah. They did the same thing for Persona, I think, except on the sides to compensate for the 4:3 formatting of the PS2.
