Endurance Run: Chrono Trigger - Part 10

2 things I'd like to say:

1) Please pay a little more attention to the bosses. Enemies in this game very often go into coutnerattack stances, like the first boss you fight in this episode, or just plain counterattack specific attacks.

2) Change the battle system to Wait in the options. The difference is that when you're looking through a list of your items or tech during battle, the fight will pause. That's it. This allows you to pick the spell you want without panicking. Remember that time in the factory when you couldn't find items and the enemies almost killed you? Yeah...

The game will not pause when picking between Fight, Tech and Item. You use that time to wait for dual techs.

Ryan keeps hitting the prompt on the cat twice... my god.

The funny thing is being burned out on the forest was their own fault for walking back and forth over and over for no reason earlier.

I'm worried about their levels. It's weird them playing the whole game barely looking at a map. Having only played this game on the ds the map made everything so much easier.

Technically it's not magic, but just shadow damage. And yes.

yeah he did hit it just once at first and the cat followed him, but then he hit it another time and it went away and he never got that hitting it once meant follow and twice meant it went away. Not a huge deal though, I'm concerned about the waste of Ethers at the end. He could have just used a shelter at the world map or even better an inn, but he didn't know that that was the end of fighting.

I'm the other way when it comes to RPG's and end up hording my items too much because I'm so scared of running out of something. For example in FF7 I don't think I ever used an ether or elexir or anything until you get the W-Item materia and can use the duplicate glitch. It's being catious taken too far, kind of like people who reload in an FPS after every shot. I guess it's hard to find a middle ground.

Ughhh It's so frustrating to watch!! Haha, It's funny though. I've played this game and got all the endings. Went through about 9 new game+'s. Chrono Trigger is a beast of a game.

Try to not be jerks to one another in the comments on here, fellas and/or gals. Because we mods are always watching.

Hey, Patrick... Don't be afraid to speak up when you think you've got something going. Yes, that boss was counter-attacking and you knew it. Yes, that shadow attack did heal the skeletons and you knew it. Muttering it under your breath and hoping you weren't wrong DOES let you claim that you were right at a later point, but it's not gonna help the game or the endurance run any!
 
But also, don't be too confident, I guess. Like when you were told to go 400 years into the past to fight Magus and then immediately doubted that 600AD was the right place... I've noticed Ryan being good at missing obvious things and making faulty assumptions in previous ERs and QLs. Gonna be fun to watch an entire game being played by two people with that same habit...
 
That said, I'm thoroughly enjoying this, and it's a blast to watch some rare first impressions of such a good, old game. Keep it up!

Were you there for the Persona 4 Endurance Run when there were sometimes (though quite rarely) episodes that were under 10 minutes? 26 is nothing to complain about.

How is it that they could follow the plot of Deadly Premonition, but not the first 3 hours of Chrono Trigger? Anyways great video, and as always, cant wait for Monday.

Whenever I see the phrase "Go ahead! Try and attack...!" pop up in combat, I always visualise some guy saying it in a really sarcastic/mocking voice that seriously doubts the efforts of the party.

Please start reading all the dialogs to the viewers. It would make the ER so much better!

It's impossible for me to say anything positive other than they're playing Chrono Trigger.

Take enemy comments literally! If he says go ahead and try and attack, DON'T ATTACK! Classic JRPG!

Man, I'm so happy that I didn't have a bunch of people spewing criticism at me the first time I played Chrono Trigger!

Are they seriously gonna go through this entire fight and not realize that DO NOT ATTACK NOW UNTIL I SAY YOU CAN is something they should pay attention to?
 
You don't even have to hold Chrono Trigger on a pedestal to whine in the comments in these videos, this is just Video Gaming 101 that they seem to have no clue about.

The thing that frustrates me as a viewer isn't Ryan's lack of understanding of the mechanics/JRPG tropes, it's shit like constantly rechecking open chests, or having the memory of a guppy and wandering already explored areas until he's exhausted every possible location. It's like, c'mon man, pay attention.

That said, I've relaxed and am enjoying it more because of it.

Really sums up the reckless and carefree nature of the Endurance Run so far. Thankfully they haven't taken too big of a hit yet for it.

With their reckless nature, their tendency to avoid random battle when they can and an incomplete grasp of the systems and character skills, I wonder if there is going to be a point where they just hit a wall and have to repeat a boss over and over while getting their tushes handed to them.
