Endurance Run: Chrono Trigger - Part 27

At first I was kinda pissed about the mistakes they made, but after the second game over screen I just stopped caring and started laughing at their screwups.

Nothing stops Lightning2 on the three of them.

Dude, it's because of Chrono Trigger, not Ryan and Patrick. I'm sure it's a great game, but it's too serious for an Endurance Run. Persona 4 has a good sense of humor, Deadly Premonition is weird as shit, but Chrono Trigger is just boring. I'm sure it's a great game, but not in this context. That's the problem that people need to get. It's not Ryan and Patrick. It's Chrono Trigger. They should've picked Earthbound. Pretty similar in a lot of ways to Chrono Trigger, but it's funny and weird.

But seriously, people need to calm down and stop blaming Ryan and Patrick.

That's an extremely good point, and Earthbound would fit the ER format much better.

I still think there's something to be said about the presenters, though, because I only bothered to watch a handful of the BR episodes but watched all of VJ.

@Auxin: Oh, no doubt. Brad's absentminded and Ryan's a backseat driver, so they were kind of a bad pair to watch sometimes. Like here, neither Ryan nor Patrick are reading the text on screen that tells them what to do. That's kind of frustrating to watch sometimes. I totally get that. But I think, in general terms, I'd lay the fault on the game choice, not the people playing. It's too active and serious for an Endurance Run.

I can't believe Ryan died twice in that dungeon. Seriously they need to read haha. This endurance run is lacking humor though, no ER without Vinny please!

I admit, I was being an arse behind the ego-caressing blanket of internet anonymity. It was just steam being let off because it's disappointing when I see guys whose opinions and content I otherwise respect demonstrate relatively poor comprehension of things that are patently obvious to many people (myself included who can count the number of JRPGs played on one hand) not to mention apparent 10 second memories - which I grant is likely largely due to them being distracted by the need to commentate.

In any case, think of that more as a compliment to Vinny and Jeff than an insult to the other guys.

As far as my own intelligence, I'd like to think so; but being an egotistical dick is unfortunately an accurate stereotype of software programmers :)

I love the endurance runs but my god this was a painful bit to watch. I mean Ryan even said "colour coated scouts" at one point so I'm assuming he should have been able to notice the whole "red scout fights all BUT Fire" but I guess not. Admitedly its not the best translation but im still surprised that neither Pat or Ryan even bothered to read off what happens when you hit them with the wrong magic.

I'm just going to go ahead an call that they are also going to murder the next potential party member without even knowing it. I really hope they don't but man....... I just don't really have faith in it.

Keep on trucking though guys. I cant wait to see Ryan's reaction to what happens next.

I actually really enjoyed the fumbling around this episode. It's humor in actions over humor in words. Sometimes this ER is like watching a gameplay slapstick routine. Which is perhaps a tad frustrating at first, but when you get used to it and think about it from the perspective of them being entertainers, it's really quite amusing.

like the rest of you, watching them blatantly ignore huge text that should be impossible to miss kills me, but imagine being a developer and watching them play this game. I'd want to kill myself. How does one make a game user friendly when the users refuse to take your friendly advice? They're like people who refuse to watch anything with subtitles.

I can't help but wonder... are they this bad for the sole purpose of trolling or do they really not know the purpose of color coded enemies?

Can they not read the text on the screen? That whole time they fought the blue eyes and got owned it said "Blue scout fights all mag but water" very prominently at the top of the screen, but they never saw it.

@TheVideoHustler: I just pointed out that, the thing you said is not accurate and put a little constructive advice in the end. Also, I didn't said that it's not hard to record stuff for the site, it is... probably. Maybe I'm a huge ass or dick or the variation of the two, but I'm also right.

Did I miss something? New episode isn't up and it wasn't on the site list.

I always sort of wondered what happened if one of them got sick or something. And know I know. And Knowing is half the battle!

I hope we get more soon. I bitched about this episode like (almost) everyone else, but I still enjoy seein the game and their commentary. I just don't like seeing this part again and again and again, when I could be seeing NEW parts.

Can't blame them for being late personally. You can tell they film 5 episodes at once on a Monday, Tuesday through Friday's, then the next Monday episode. That at least seems the most practical. I was amazed when episodes kept rolling out over Christmas.

I don't mind it being delayed but it would be nice to know when to expect the next one.

No... I'm positive I saw it in the coming up section yesterday.

But that was only right after I had finished watching this one- so it was still pretty early in the day. (No idea when it was removed)

I cannot remember if Ryan/Patrick went into this saying they are not good at RPG's, but this is really showing they aren't. You have to pay attention and some of things they mess up on are just ridiculous.

You know I'm kinda glad that Ryan and Patrick don't have those inbuilt habits that RPG players get when they play enough. So far it's proven more interesting to watch them learn and celebrate their progress in understanding Chrono trigger than anything I could imagine had they been practiced RPG players. That being said, that last death was kinda painful to watch.

Don't like how this endurance run is being played? Don't watch it, go play the game. I never played this so I'm having an awesome time go through it with these guys.

I am in no regard asking them to be seasoned veterans of the genre. Simply put I want them to put their heads to use in the middle of the battle with the wits that hopefully they have gathered over time. I have never beatem CT, I think the farthest I have ever gotten was the first attempt on Ragnaros where is near impossible. However, watching them tackle the Giga boss and not realizing how easy it is to kill one arm and then weaken the other so it's a one hit when they spawn just made me cringe. There have been other occurrences where it just made me want to hit them but the one with the red/blue scouters today just makes me sad.

I really don't understand this mentality. So there is an easier way to beat a boss? Big deal; they beat that guy anyway. I really can't relate to people who get frustrated or who cringe by watching a bunch of dudes play a video game.

Man, didn't these guys learn anything when they fought the Blue Scouts?

I have never been more frustrated watching them play a game on GiantBomb. Never have they had such bad luck noticing things, like text hints, not even Brad.

Also doors. This game is bad with doors. But still.

Yeh, getting the message "Blue scouts fights every magic but water" when its clearly spelled out by the game countless times really takes some hardcore RPG experience. If they where actually clueless about the meaning of the message but in this case thety just totally ignores the TV screen

@ccampb89: Actually, I really had no problem with how they handled Gaia. Yeah they could have done it a bit better, but they worked a relatively rational way. Pretty sure they took that one seriously and they did just fine, even if not the perfect way. When that happens, I have NO problem with it. That's normal for someone's first play through of the game, and I know they aren't veterans of the genre.

The only tiny thing that bothers me (and it's small, really I do love this ER) is the oblivious nature they take towards the text boxes which are integral to understanding a lot of normal enemies and most bosses. I guess it's a sign that they aren't obvious enough and it's the game's fault (or the setup that have), who knows.
