Oh wow Patrick liked Catherine? That's a total surprise, to me at least. Not mocking his choice but that was a bit left field.

Wonder if this will win Patrick some friends on here as he is the only person to give a shit about Skyward Sword.

It had its issues, but I'm glad to see Zelda getting some recognition

Wow, surprised at Catherine. I mean, I also put it in my list, but never really expected any of the staff to actually like it that much. Overall, good list Patrick :)

I really appreciate that Patrick is well able to articulate the things that are great about his choices. Patrick is refreshing on this site for being able to embody an earnest seriousness when it comes to everything videogamey. I have a feeling that the easiest way to get into an argument with him would be to say "dude, this is just entertainment".

If I had to make a top ten list for things that happened on GB in 2011, Patrick's expanded role in this place's proceedings would definitely be high up on that list.

While I'm thinking along these lines, I'd also like to mention...my favorite video-moment of the year on GB was at the bombhouse during E3, which Patrick was crawling around on the floor demonstrating how some game (I even forget what it was) was broken/janky. I rewatched that bit about a dozen times, and laughed myself silly.

ohhhh so that's why I've never heard of that Sword and Sorcery game, cause it's apple.

This is probably the best list of the guys so far. (Well, best meaning the one I agree with most) Though I was disappointed with the choice of Skyrim as number one, and I'd have reordered them a little. I guess this list makes up for Patrick's Non-Stop Bieber Toothbrush moments, a moment when I'd have killed him to make it stop. ^_^;;

I wasn't expecting Patrick to have such a selection of dark horse games in his list, but goddamn if I don't agree with them. Great list, good sir.

I disagree. I think Portal 2 is a better game, it just isn't as impactful.

still enjoying the FMV stuff, and some great view points on the games he liked.

Honestly, for Catherine, if you didn't actually like the block puzzles I don't see how it's number 2 on your list; It's number 2 on mine, but it wouldn't have even made it had the block puzzles not been engaging to me.

Also... I started playing Sword & Sworcery today. Just one chapter in but it's nice, unique looking and has a very special soundmix. Interesting so far.

@Animasta: He kind of explained, didn't he? In his opinion, Catherine tries to engage the players with questions about morality, relationships and sex. The game might be "clumsy", but, for him, those themes were important and unique enough to award it 2nd place?

Portal 2 is not as good as Portal? Opinions and all, but... no. Just no. Less original, maybe. But Portal 2 is a better game is just about every way possible.

Man, not really in-line with Pat's order as I had thought but we ended on the same top spot so cool!

Kleptok is by far the best thing about these FMVs though! Fuck!

I think "This is just entertainment" or "It's just a ___ game" is the single biggest thing holding this industry back because it's coming from within the industry itself. It's not some jagoff ambulance chaser trying to prolong his 15 minutes of fame or a "concerned" parents group trying to grab headlines, it's OUR fault as both an industry and consumers.

Patricks hair could solve world hunger.

That's one surprising list, I wasn't expecting it to be so varied.

For the same reasons I put it on my list, its an original concept and does some unique things that make the experience worthwhile. His reasoning was perfectly justified. The gameplay isn't explicitly bad, it just wasn't the main draw for many.

This was a fantastic top 10, especially how Patrick explained why he put it there.

My question is though if Patrick nudged Catherine up a few spots since many seem to be forgetting about it or since Jeff dispises that games very existence?

Also nice to see Skyward Sword mentioned without simply making a line about it being a "reason to dust of your wii" and actually seriously talking about the game.

Yeah, but it'd have to be a choose you own adventure though, to give at least a tiny amount of interactivity.

No surprise that Patrick had Skyward Sword on the list because he was like the only one I think that've played it.

Catherine is an interesting number 2? Although he didn't sound that convincing I guess it's all in the eye of the beho... player.
